Do Chiropractors Hires Nurses?

Nurses General Nursing

I've seen Chiropractor offices near my home, and I always wondered if nurses work there. Anyone know or work at one?

I don't believe so. The chiropractic offices that I have been to don't employ nurses. They have the secretaries and the chiropractors. That's it. I'm not sure what tasks in a chiro office would require a nurse.

I saw an ad for a chiropractic nurse/office assistant in my area. They wanted the nurse to handle all the billing and coding to ensure accurate reimbursement, retrieve any ordered labs or imaging studies, take x-rays (the chiropractor was going to "certify" the new employee to take "chiropractic x-rays"), set up the treatment room, administer adjunctive therapies (cold laser, heat therapy, TENS like therapy, ultrasound), do client/patient intake & assessment, and work at community events to promote the health benefits of chiropractic assessment, adjustment and therapy.

the same chiro advertised he can cure otitis media, MRSA, strep and a few other conditions (including ADHD) only utilizing "holistic" and chiropractic therapies (no antibiotics needed)

The legitimate chiropractors I know in my area have only an assistant that helps with any client billing/insurance issues, appointment scheduling, requests for information, and referrals. These DC's preferred to do their own x-rays as needed, assessments, and treatment plans.

Yeah- nursing school won't do a bit of good with billing issues...and chiropractic medicine is so much more holistic and not about a lot of "western" medicine (although they are good for a lot of things !). I've never seen or heard of a nurse in a chiropractic office and if the ad says nurse/assistant that tells me (IME) that it's not really a nursing position where you'd get practical experience for more traditional jobs..... but if it's a job, and you need the work- at least it would still help with patient contact....

A chiro curing MRSA???? Really??? A bug that is resistant to most antibiotics, and this guy can cure it? Uh... I'd be more than a little skeptical. I've heard about the otitis....not ADHD or strep w/chiro --

Maybe google chiro and ADHD and MRSA, and see what comes up (and see if the site is sponsored by some legit source- not 'Dr. Neckjerk's Miracle Cures' :D JMHO :)

Specializes in Med nurse in med-surg., float, HH, and PDN.

There are a few chiros I know of who have at one time or another had an LPN in-office, but like mom-n-student said above, ALL those duties and a few more were part of the job.....and the PAY was NOT on par with a nurses wage.

Specializes in Med/Surg, Ortho, ASC.

Chiropractors operate outside of the traditional medical field. It would really be a stretch (in my opinion) for a licensed nurse to function in a chiropractic practice. And if they did, it would be outside the traditional nursing role for which their license prepares them.

Chiropractic is quackery.

I worked in a chiropractic office before nursing. It was just me and the chiropractor... no nurse (i was a student nurse.. but she didnt hire me for that purpose) . However the pharmacy i worked at had an RN :)

Chiropractic is quackery.

And you base this on ?????? :)

How about the fact that they claim they can cure MRSA for example???

I do medical review for major insurance companies and can tell you several stories about chiropracters who call to precert treatment for cures for all sorts of diagnosis...such as ADHD, autism, bedwetting, toenail fungus that is resistant to all other treatment, chronic ear infections....and these are just the ones I can think of right off the top of my head....I mean autism...REALLY?????

Needless to say, we do not authorize these treatments.

They may be good for some stuff...but I am NOT a big fan....and I can not imagine what use a licensed nurse could be...certainly not for working the desk or insurance work....this is a case where they are calling the assistant or office worker the "nurse"...Just sayin...

I know there are duds in all jobs- don't know of anyone who would argue with that :) But not all chiropractors are doing those screwy thing . Some are practicing within their own scope of practice- and do help people. They're definitely not my first choice for pain- and I'm always nervous about anybody cranking a neck so it sounds like popcorn.... but they don't all do that :)

Yeah- a nurse wouldn't be needed for what it sounds like was being advertised for...

I agree w/you on those things you listed- need actual medical treatment for that. But I don't think there's anything wrong with seeing a chiro to have some benign alignments... and if it's placebo effect- who cares -if it doesn't harm the person, and they 'feel' better :) Better than having them strung out on oxycontin from a Dr. Feelgood :)

I agree about not having people hooked on narcs...I have very strong feelings on that as well, however, in regard to the "first do no harm issue"...I have also taken in scary cases. Such as the young man who is now a quad from a chiropractic "adjustment"...he is actually in a HALO brace so maybe there is hope for him yet....also several lumbar discectomies, s/p "adjustments...and remember, I am talking to clients all across America, so I talk to many of these dudes, I think it's more than just a couple who think they can cure cancer......I wasn't a big fan before I started doing this insurance medical review gig...now I am really turned off....Hey, if you want to be a doctor GO TO MEDICAL SCHOOL YOU BUFFOONS~:jester:
