patient was scheduled for a procedure. NPO at midnight, no fluids and is diabetic. oncoming nurse ni the morning 700am said i should have had the patient on fluids. d5, particularly. why?!? thanks.

Is the patient on an insulin pump?

Just because a nurse said it doesn't mean she's right. Anyway, we'd need more info to make a reasonable decision, and this seems kinda homeworky.

people with diabetes survive every day at home being NPO every night for about 8 hours.

I become NPO after midnight, every night, as do most diabetics, we do just fine.
