Delay of care

So mad at myself for making a (bad) mistake yesterday that delayed care for a pt! I wrote it up, but I still just have a stomach knot! How do I just move on? Having anxiety about going back tomorrow.

You did nothing wrong. You rounded and she didn't complain of CP at the time. She reported it a few minutes later and someone dropped the ball in telling you. Let her know next time she has CP and no one shows up immediately to call again for help. When you went back in she told you and you addressed it immediately. You should be in no trouble for this situation. You did everything you could as soon as you were aware.

Aggie nurse did you edit something out?

Yeah, I edited out some details. I figure its not always as anonymous here as it should be. I wasn't informed of a pt c/o, and there's probably an adverse outcome b/c of it. No matter no one told me, I'm the primary nurse, so I'm responsible. I just dwell on things.

Thanks.

You are not super-able-to-read-minds nurse. Go easier on yourself!

I think you are throwing yourself under the bus and taking too much accountability here. You checked the patient and she was fine. She complained of CP and no one told you. You went back in 45 minutes and she then told you she had CP and you addressed it immediately. The person who received the info and didn't respond should be in trouble not you. If you hadn't checked on her in 6 hours you'd be in trouble, but you checked her twice in 45 minutes. You shouldn't accept blame here and taking it is wrong in this case. Hold the person who should be accountable accountable. Don't sign or agree to anything here. This isn't your fault.

unless you have mind reading abilities the rest of us lack, quit blaming yourself! you are a mere mortal woman, not wonder woman in scrubs! you could only use the information that you were given. my mom

used to say not to beat yourself up over things that were not your fault because there would always be a

whole line of people willing to do it for you. quit driving yourself crazy, which i know can be hard.

let it go and don't look back because you did the best you could do with the information you were given and there were no adverse outcomes. i'd say, all in all, not a bad outcome.
