Published

On National Nurses Week 2015, New York Times bestselling author Alexandra Robbins will release her next riveting book: THE NURSES: A YEAR WITH THE HEROES BEHIND THE HOSPITAL CURTAIN. Alexandra is looking to the allnurses community to provide names of your real life hero nurses to be included in the Wall of Heroes. Heroes are nurses who inspire you such as your mother, coworker, teacher, relative, supervisor, preceptor, friend.

To include a nurse in the book's Wall of Heroes, please click on the link below to access the submission. Submit the completed form by December 10 with the name of a nurse who inspires you, the nurse's degrees, and state. There is no catch, no cost, and no contest: We simply want to celebrate nurses.

To learn more about the book, which represents the voices of hundreds of nurses Robbins interviewed across the country, visit http://www.workman.com/features/nurses While the book possesses all the twists, turns, and satisfactions of a brilliantly told narrative, it is also a celebration of a unique profession that deserves so much more recognition than it gets.

Alexandra was winner of the Best Nonfiction Book of the Year (Goodreads Choice Awards) for her book, The Geeks Shall Inherit The Earth

Can we submit more than one nurse? I know quite a few nurses that I would like to be when I grow up

Great question. Sure, how about up to 5 nurses?

I hope this book features nurses outside of the hospital as well! It would be great to showcase all the amazing work nurses do in the community, public health, research, education, etc..

Yes! The nurses I followed over the course of a year (so that readers can curl up with the book and get engrossed in their ongoing stories) are hospital nurses, but I spoke with all kinds of nurses across the country. For example, I interviewed the president of the National Association of School Nurses, who made the fantastic point that school nurses are underestimated because they have an unbelievable amount of patients per nurse and must be prepared for anything. And several nursing school deans talk about the enormous variety in the field: nurses as scientists, businesspeople, researchers, etc.

Surely more of you know some real live nursing heroes. We have gotten very little response.

All nurses are heroes, so maybe the post should read "... to your favorite nurse." (or maybe it was just the Thanksgiving timing. : ) )
