Can I even make it in nursing?

Hey everyone :) On another post that I recently posted someone brought something to my attention about my personality. I am a very sensitive person and I have anxiety disorder but I am also very caring and supportive. Will I even make it in nursing? I thought nursing was good for me because I am very caring and stuff but please tell me what you think. Obviously I'll learn how to handle tough situations and other stuff in nursing school but please tell me is there something I'm missing?

I currently still have anxiety, but I used to have it really bad in my early college years. At that time, I am sure I wouldn't have been able to get through nursing school, much less nursing as an occupation! But, with time and perseverance I have gotten so much better about it! I've got to say, seeing a therapist and doing Behavioral Cognitive Therapy would probably help you the best. What I did is I got a job as a caregiver. When I gained some confidence in caring for one patient at a time, I took CNA classes and am now working as a CNA. You just have to be dedicated and walk into work everyday with this mindset: I'm going to help these patients.

My advice is to start small and see how you do. Good luck and let us know how it goes!

You're very welcome Alexis :D I'm here if you need someone to lend an ear.

We are all here for you. As a sensitive person, you are seriously needed in nursing. Become an advocate which in a way is displacement. You control your anxiety because it's someone else's cause and you learn how to both advocate for them and ultimately yourself. Find support like All Night. Unfortunately I'm not sensitive, just lots of empathy and compassion. Take care.

I thought you said you already had your bachelor's in your other thread?

Based on JBudd's comment, I went ahead and read your other posts and you do appear to have been posting that you already have your BSN (even inquiring if it's necessary to go on to your MSN). So, what are your current credentials? Are you already a nurse?

Can you make it in nursing? Only you know the answer to that. But I can promise you that anxiety and sensitivity are obstacles to this that can be overcome. You can do it if you are determined. :)
