Big Hospitals affiliating with community hospitals

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Lately, a number of major hospitals in NY are acquiring community hospitals. Like Hudson Valley Hospital was recently acquired by New York Presbeterian, White plains hospital by Montifiero, I believe....etc. Am curious to know how the RNs salaries and Benefits have been affected in these community hospitals having joined these major hospitals.

My little hospital (noble) just got bought by Baystate the huge hospital in Springfield where I know techs like me get paid $16 per hour starting so I am hoping that bumps my salary up soon! I don't see why it wouldn't!

Just be mindful that things can change. If you are nurse used to working certain hours (for instance if you always work 3-11 and have Monday and Thursday off) restructuring may change that. Your LPN's may be let go. Your ADN's may be asked to have a time frame to get their BSNs. Your seasoned staff may be asked to retire. You may get a new management team.

The downside to the big ones scooping up the little ones is the restructuring that happens. And the general uncertainty that follows. The devil you know is better than the devil you don't know.

Thanks for the feedback!

Specializes in ICU.

All of the nurse managers will have to reapply for their jobs and you will probably get a new CNO.

Same thing here in my area. Less competition means lower salary or stagnant salaries........
