I didn't know that the 25 days of PTO we get must be used to be paid for holidays. I knew they were for sick time, vacation days, and personal emergencies. But they also must be used to get paid for the holidays that the employer "gives" us.

How does it work at your place of employment?

In the US, there is no guaranteed maternity leave. FMLA guarantees that you can take 12 weeks off but not all employees are covered by FMLA and an FMLA leave is unpaid.

Which is insane..

But remember unions, universal healthcare and a socially responsible welfare system are the work of the devil and anti-American.

Forgot about 1 year mat leave and a chance to take up to another 12 months after first baby unpaid and guaranteed job to come back to.

Paid mat leave = to 14 weeks pay, it can be taken at 1/2 pay over 28 weeks. 10 sick days and the paid FACS leave (for funerals or other family emergencies etc of family members) which is 4 days in your first year, then 6 for every two years following. We can also accrue up to 1 more week of annual leave depending on how many Sundays/public holidays are worked through the year (another nsw health employee).

There are so many parts of the world I actually think I'd enjoy living in more than the US. I'm particularly interested in Spain's 2 hour nap time in the middle of the day.
