Areas of nursing?

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Hello,

I just recently got accepted into the nursing program at Purdue North Central and have started to wonder what specific area of nursing I want to go in. I know there's many, many areas of nursing and that's one of the many pros I see about the career. So my question is basically what particular skills, personality traits, interests, etc match up with different kinds of nurses? I'm looking for a bit of a broad overview of different areas of nursing and your opinions of the positives and negatives of each.

Thank you!

even if you got answers you would not know how to process them till you have the education and experience to back it up. Your decision now is to get a license. Worry about the other later on when you have had more opportunity to test the waters

What she said.

And if you still are that curious, please read through the MANY threads on this very topic. You'll find lots of helpful information :)

Your focus needs to me on surviving right now.

However, it pays to keep your eyes open during your clinical rotations and observe the nurses in their roles.

Are they running around like chickens with here heads cut off and extremely testy? Probably not somewhere you want to end up.

I am thinking you are male, just to let you know... many male nurses end up in critical care.

Best of luck!

Ah I see, I think that it makes more sense to decide later on too. I'm busy enough trying to get a license lol. People are always asking me what field of nursing I want to go into and I never have much of an answer. Btw, love your avatar @Been there, done that!!! I was actually thinking about a Madonna avatar myself as soon as I set up my profile:up:

There are a lot of different fields of nursing. I'm in the same situation as you: I have no idea which field to specialize in. However, as soon as I begin working as an RN, I'm sure I will find a field I immensely enjoy. I heard it may take a few yrs and experience in different fields to find your "niche." Just focus on passing the NCLEX and becoming an RN for now :)
