Anyone who's a mom and preparing or have passed the NCLEX?

Hi everyone!

I am preparing for NCLEX and I believe this requires a lot of preparation and studying especially for someone like me who's been out of nursing practice for 5 years.

I find it hard to balance my time being a mom to a 1 1/2 year old son, being a wife and studying at the same time.

I feel so overwhelmed by the wide-scope topics that I have to review and honestly I don't know where to start or if I am doing the right thing in my study time.

If you have any suggestion or story on how you passed the NCLEX while being a mom and a wife I would appreciate if you could share it with me.

Thanks!

My children were older when I took Boards, but I would suggest you carve out a time every day, even if only 1 hour, that is absolutely yours to do as you please. That way you won't feel guilty about using the time. And don't try to be supermom. Tell people you need help. You will be helping them and others soon.

you mean you graduated 5 years ago and will take the nclex for the first time?

if so, how about a review class?

Ancella Marie.....welcome to Allnurses! :balloons:

Five years???? Wow!!! Okay.....right after graduation, I took a NCLEX study course with a male nurse who was known for not having any of his students fail the NCLEX. He was one awesome teacher!!! He did that on his "spare time", so with a few of my nursing collegues, we took his study class which only lasted one entire day.......and we all passed the NCLEX first time around! So.....find a really good course to take....preferably one that offers direct interaction and not just a book to read and study on your own......so boring, IMHO. ;)

I wish you well and let us know how you do! :kiss :nurse:

I have an NCLEX review CD rom which is wonderful (it has 3000 or so questions) That might help freshen you up ;)

I won't take mine for 2 years then my boys will be (8,7,6,4) so let me know how it goes :roll

when i took lpn boards (children were very small), i did not do a review other than do practice questions from an old book that someone gave me. for my nclex-rn (children will be 24, 17, and 15 when i finish and they are 22, 15, and 13 now), i don't know if i will do a review or not but i am doing nclex-rn questions from my nclex-rn book every chance i get. all the best to you.

Iwould take an NCLEX review course after this long. This willmake it necessary for you to find a sitter for that time, but then you will be able to devote your attention to that material for that time, also. Many of us graduated nursing school and passed the NCLEX with toddlers, teens and tweens and did a-ok. You can, too. You are lucky because there are more review materials and options than ever before. I wish you luck!

ancella marie, and welcome to the board!

Thanks everyone!

Your messages are all inspiration to me.

I'll share with you the date of my exam (as I'm sure to be in need of prayers) and the result.

I wish you all the best both in your career and personal life!
