Any Suggestions for Comfy Shoes?

I am a soon to be recent graduate (1 week and counting). I will be working in the OR at Children's hospital. I would like some suggestions on the best shoes to stand still for long periods of time. Does anyone have a suggestion? Also, I've heard alot about the Z-Coil shoes and was wondering if anyone knew about those? Thanks so much.

Stacy

Stacy - Good question -- I have a couple of suggestions but I am also interested in what other folks suggest. I have been wearing some inexpensive plastic Rockers clogs and want to buy some better shoes. I like my current clogs as I can easily launder them. I have heard good things about Merrell clogs. I have seen a few folks wearing the Z-coil shoes, but have read that some don't care for them as tubing sometimes gets caught in the coils.

I am interested in Calzuro's autoclavable clogs because they are autoclavable. But they look like they would be hot, and I don't work in an area where I could autoclave them, so they don't make sense for me right now.

I have been amazed at how gradient compression stockings reduce leg fatigue. I don't like pantyhose however, as they are too hot. I am going to try some thigh highs and some of the knee socks.

Congratulations on your graduation and good luck!!!

I think this a personal decision. Some people love the Z coils and some swear by Dansko's. Z coils bring a lot of attention (they remind me of tigger):lol2: I know nurses that would wear nothing else. Personally I still love my Dansko's

Dankso! Dansko! Dansko!!!!!

I bought some expensive Klogz brand shoes that were really comfortable but made my feet sweat like "a _____ in church." Anyhow, I decided to try some of the inexpensive (like $10) ventilated comfort clogs on allheart.com thinking what the heck? Let me tell you, they are the most comfortbale, light weight nursing shoe I've owned. They have a removable padded sole too. I was so surprised! I've had them about 6 months and they've held up too.

Are you gellin?

Easy Spirit. I have two pairs, open heels and athletic, and love them both. Very light and comfortable. Prior to them, tried Nurse Mates (awful), Nike (so-so), and Reebok (so-so as well).

I had Nurse Mates in school and HATED them.

Highly suggest Nike shox...

I've tried Nike Shox too, and while they are comfy, I tend to think they are more suited for running, than walking, and provide weak sole support. My feet were hurting after 12 hours walking in them, so I use them for biking now (considering how much I invested in them, they are not really paying off, ).

Klogs!! They are so comfy and feel soft and squishy under your feet. Only drawback is they are a bit sweaty. Also, knee high support stockings-they make a huge difference!

danskos for me.

some swear by birkenstocks, the plastic kind that you can throw in the wash, too, but danksos fit my foot better.

you are going to have to find what is comfortable for you -- someone else's favorite may not work for you.
