I am interested in your feelings about how academic honesty affects your personal integrity and role as a nurse.

There is no way to separate academic integrity from professional or personal integrity. Either you are honest, or you are not. A student who cheats will continue the same kind of behaviors when he/she is working.

Cant put it any better.

Nurses must be honest. The first situation that comes to mind is the vulnerability of elderly ill people. Many have home nurses. They are sooooooo vulnerable to theft and abuse by dishonest medical personnel.

I read a article about the % of nurses who would report a med.error that either they made or that of a collegue and a large percentage of the nurses would not,or do not report med errors,I forget the exact percentage who wouldnt report but it was such a large number that it made an impression on me.

I also agree with others. Someone who will take the easy way out in school is likely not to be honest in general.

I can't even understand how you could cheat and be a nurse! Where would you be without your knowledge base? How could anyone be so stupid to think they could cheat thier way thru school, and then try to practice?

I would be interested in reading that article about nurses reporting med errors. Does anyone know where to find this article?

this is such an interesting subject. i am an rn right now, but while i was in school i had some prerequisites with a CHEATER. she is now in her final semester of school and has asked me to preceptor her. i refuse to do it, because i feel if one cheats all the way through school, they will cheat on the job.........

And they will!!! These are the nurses who forget to give a med, but sign it off and just throw the pill away so no one knows, who will make up BPs cause she/he is too lazy to actually DO them, who knows an IV is bad--but plays dumb cause its the end of the shift and they don't want to have to re-start it--grrrrr the list goes on and on (bad day at work recently can ya tell?? haha)
