I am just curious to know are there any nurses that work two jobs in this economy. Either for the extra income, or the stability and satisfaction of having an extra job in case you should lose one? If so, what are your two jobs? What hours do you work? And how do you feel? The reason why I ask is because my mother and my aunt are two RNs and they work two jobs out of fear that if something should happen they have a backup. Do any nurses feel the same?

I work two nursing jobs. I work as full-time staff at a hospital and work per-diem for a staffing agency that sends me to different hospitals. I work 3 12-hr night shifts at the hospital and work once every 3 months for the agency. Once every 3 months is the minimum requirement for the agency. It's nice to have a back up job and sometimes I just don't feel like working extra at my regular hospital.

In home care, being signed on with more than one agency can make it easier to get that next case with little downtime. It is common practice and accepted to have more than one employer. Some nurses juggle cases with as many as four agencies because any one of them can not provide enough consistent work. This is standard, even in a good economy.

Until recently I was working 2 jobs. But it just became too much! The primary job is Thur-sat nights 12 hour shift. My secondary job was days (and they were scheduling me 3 day shifts a week). Now I just work 3 nights a week and it's HEAVEN!

Just wondering, is that considered full time??? Do you get paid for any more shifts??? That works out to 18 shifts in 6 week! A full time RN at my hospital MUST work 21 shifts in 6 weeks.
