4th of July, no time and half - page 2

Just found out that as far as managment is concerned the Holiday is Monday. So those of us working this evening are doing it for straight time. (insert obsenities here) :angryfire Which means all the... Read More

Since I was asked, I must say that the nonpayment of evening differentials at my facility really annoys me. All of our full time ICU nurses must work 12 hour shifts. For day shift that is 7A-7P. All other nursing units offer 8 hour shifts and offer an evening differential starting at 3 PM........but we receive no differential for the same time we are both working (3P-7P).

There really is no rationale for this inequity, they are just being incredibly cheap. Their "rule" is: If you clock in before 8 am you do not get the differential. That, of course, effectively eliminates the ICU day shift. :angryfire

Oramar, I can't believe how cruddy that is!!! :angryfire I am at work right now getting ready to go home. It is holiday pay for me, but believe me, I would be pretty hacked if it weren't holiday pay for those of us who worked Fri/Sat/Sun! BTW, another hospital in town works Sat/Sun/Mon in order to cover the fact that most weekend holidays are celebrated on Mondays. Makes logical sense to me. What do the rest of y'all think?

Our hospital does not pay any different than any other day. We do not even get holiday for Christmas or Thanksgiving. Consider yourself lucky if you get anything more than your nl pay as some of us get NIL!!

We don't get holiday pay EVER. Doesn't matter what day it is, there is no incentive for us to work except that we are required to. For nights, we get $3. For weekends, only a stinkin DOLLAR. ONE DOLLAR. :angryfire: I'd be pretty pissed if I were you, but at least you do get holiday pay sometime. But the 4th situation really sucks.

I work nights so last night Saturday into Sunday am was my holiday. Wont add that we get 2 1/2 times pay. Rj-- And those who dont work get staight time for it.

Our hospital is doing the same thing... Tomorrow (7/5) will be the day that if you work you get the holiday pay... I think its rather stupid myself.. But I work today and tomorrow, so it works out for me..

I got reduced at my hospital job...so I'll never know if it was holiday pay or not! (Darn, the money would have come in handy!)

I have a part-time job at the hospital and a full time job at the university. University has 7 paid holidays per year (we get them off). Plus we accrue 18 hours vacation each month.

Wow Hypnotic Nurse, 18 hours a month! Only 6 a month here. But reading this no holiday pay for a lot of you, that really sucks. I am off today (sorry to those of you working) but I haven't heard of no pay for the holiday(s) not just today. I think a lot of us need to hang together--as the famous quote, "We must all hang together or we we will assuredly hang seperately."

We get a whopping $1 per hour extra, plus the $1 per hour extra for the weekend..........can you believe my great luck???? :angryfire I have tomorrow off, but all the other 'blue-bloods' have it off AND they get paid for the whole darn day.......I worked 12 today, so I got $12. Gee, I think I'll go out and buy me something nice..........what about a package of new white undies???
Isn't there a law or something that says you get paid time and half for 'official' holidays????

Thanks to all of you who are dedicated and who don't call off on these 'holidays'.......

After reading all of these posts, I'm soooo glad I work for the State of Utah...I get paid for all federal and state holidays. Plus I work human being hours, 0830 to 1730 with an hour for lunch not to mention great bennies...been there and done that...granted I took a big cut in pay but it was sure worth it. I hope I never have to work in a hospital setting again. 11 yrs of floor duty and the BS that goes with it is not worth it, I don't care if they paid me $100/hr.

we get time and a half for every holiday. i just can't believe how many hospitals don't pay for holidays. my department also offered $300 bonuses for RN's to pick up for today because they didn't want to pay agency. i just don't see how hospitals get away with treating people like they don't have a life and families. at least make it worth it for them to come in on a holiday.
