USF BSN & ABSN Hopefuls Summer 2015

U.S.A. Florida

Published

I know I am jumping on this topic early but is anyone else excited about the upcoming ability to apply to USF? Lets get to know each other! Share a little about yourself. We can also talk about the application process, writing sample, gpa, facts/things you have heard, concerns/thoughts, other schools your applying, ect.

Lets get a conversation going! Go bulls!!

how many people are doing the upper division?

wow, I was totally unaware of that. Thanks for letting us know! How many people do they accept for the summer? I am having a hard time finding that information on their website...

And nrdortch, thanks for the advice! That is definitely helpful. How do you like USF?

I love it! The teachers are great and I feel like they really want you to succeed. Although with the second degree program I wish I would have gotten more time at the hospital....but that's what you sign up for when you do the accelerated track! I think the upper division sequence would have been a better choice....but you finish two semesters sooner with the second degree program, which is what I wanted.

I got my acceptance packet from USF in the mail literally three hours before the deadline for Summer '14. I had just got home from receiving a kidney transplant and did not have the energy to log on and try to knock out the nursing application. I am considering applying for Summer '15 because now I feel 100%. However, I am very nervous of the ABSN programs as I hear they are extremely difficult. I really want to get out of Florida, but feel like if I am going to stay here that I should take a program I can finish ASAP. I am currently enrolled in Daytona State College's ASN program that starts in January, but just want something that will get me finished earlier. I have a BA in Political Science from UCF and a 3.45 GPA. I'm not sure what my chances are anyways.

Aren't the clinical hours are the same for both programs? They were for me, I graduated August 2014.

When I applied for my job, my manager was impressed with the clinical hours we had in final preceptorship. Evidently I was competing against people in programs that only required 90 hours of final preceptorship, and I had 180 from USF (14 full 12 hour shifts, plus simulation). That's double the time. My competition had 5 or 6 12 hour shifts plus sim, and some programs didn't even do the whole shift. I think that key difference landed me my job. So there's another tip for you guys: put your clinical hours on your resume and brag about them in interviews.

I guess I should have worded it differently.....I wish I would have had a whole semester dedicated to med surg 1 and another one dedicated to med surg 2 instead of having both in one semester....it kind of stunk too the way the class schedule was because I had med surg 2 lecture before med surg 1 lecture.

how many people are doing the upper division?

I do not know exactly for sure how many people they accept, however, I surmise roughly 70 people. My basis being last weeks pinning ceremony had 140 people combined from the accelerated and upper division; now there has to to be a few people who failed out and I am not sure if they accept the same number of people into both programs. Now you have to subtract 24 V-CARE positions assuming they are all filled. So that leave roughly 56 plus or minus a few seats available.

Hope everyone has been enjoying the holiday season and is ready to ring in the new year. I have been a long time lurker and I am excited to get the ball rolling on this summer application process. I am applying for the upper division sequence and I am taking patho this spring! About me I have a 3.83 pre-req GPA and a 3.91 overall. (Getting B's in math lol) Like everyone else I am excited but nervous because USF is competitive and is my number one choice. Hoping my essay is good and I guess we shall see.

We had that too. They've been talking about spreading ms 1 and ms 2 out into different semesters forever. I guess they still haven't figured it out yet. I felt a little discombobulated that semester, but it all came together during final preceptorship.

Hi! I am applying to summer 2015 upper division and this is sort of off topic but I was looking for roommates that would be in the nursing program also so we could help each other out. I was wondering if anyone was interested and I know none of us know at this point if we are accepted or not but if we are it would be something good to start planning before apartments become unavailable around USF:) I know some people do this at orientation too but I was just trying to start early!

I was amazed that when I was about to apply, I received an email stating that the essay questions were not updated on SOAR; I wonder how many people applied and submitted the old essay personal statement questions? Nevertheless, how many people here applied this past week?

I never received that email. I'm almost sure I clicked on all the links for both the format as well as the essay questions. That being said, I applied on 1/5/15.
