:clown: WELCOME :clown:

If you're applying to the University of Florida's May 2010 accelerated BSN program in Gainesville (aka class of 2011), this thread's for you! Applicants, current students, and alumni are all welcome to the discussion!

For starters, here is the program's website:

Looking forward to meeting more of you on here!

I just took the GRE today for the 1st time and I am so made at myself for putting it off. I have been preparing for about a month, and am so upset because you have to wait one month to retake it, which is of course after the deadline. I made a 470 verbal and a 700 math for a total of 1170. I know that the program requires a minimum of 500 in each. Does anyone think that I still might have a shot since I exceeded 1000, but I am 30 points below what is required in verbal?

Do not be discouraged, because you will make me discouraged! Apply anyway! I made 480 verbal, 600 quant. and I applied.

I just turned all of my application materials in and can't wait to hear if I get in or not (such a painful wait haha) ! I'm so glad they have a thread like this!

I also did fine on my quantitative GRE but was a little low on my Verbal... hopefully that is acceptable

I am also wondering if the news of a change in start date (fall 2010) is true. you'd think it would state it somewhere on the website, maybe it is in the works still! Oh well, I think starting in the Fall sounds like a great idea, as everyone I have spoken with says the summer semester is miserable!!!

Yes, it does now start in Fall 2010. Did you have a combined 1000 on your GRE?

yes I did... I am actually taking it again next week to see if I can improve my verbal... all of my other application materials and credentials are solid, I'm just struggling a little bit with the GRE... frustrating!

thank you for the information about the start date as well!

Hey everyone! I cannot believe that I am so late about finding out about this website. I am currently attending UF (for those of you that are from out of state, the campus is amazing and you will not regret coming here!). Reading these posts makes me feel like I am at least a normal person - I have been SO stressed out about everything to do with this application process and I cannot wait to just know if I got in or not! Like many of you I had a hard time finding time for the GRE. I promised myself I would study all of winter break, but the holidays and family and all that goes along with that took my mind so far out of school-zone. I hate to say that I probably studied a total of 4 days through the break and then the day before I took the GRE. I thought I would do well on the verbal and not on the math so I spent all of my time studying math when I realize now that it should have been the other way around! I got a 540v 680q. I am so nervous that it is BARELY over the 500 required score because I know when you apply to UF some programs say things like "minimum of 2.0 gpa required" but that doesnt mean that anything around that gpa is actually accepted for entry! I guess we will all be nervous about this together! I am hoping my gpa will help me out here. (also - I got accepted to my back up school, but have decided that I no longer want to go there since it is 28k and I cannot afford that, so UF is the only school I am going for - which makes me EXTRA nervous!) good luck everyone! I hope that we all get to see one another in class!

What other school did you get accepted into? Do you have any apartment advice, like should I be setting things up now for the fall?

hey... I got into which is a private school in Philadelphia (it didn't require GRE scores).

I would wait until you hear something from UF, unless you are planning on moving here regardless of acceptance. If we hear something around March or April you will still have plenty of time to find something by July/August. Also, housing is really affordable in Gainesville, we have an area that we lovingly refer to as the "student ghetto" which isnt a ghetto at all but it is actually an area that has old houses that are rented out for fairly cheap. Unless you love living in apartments I would suggest looking at living in a house here. (but I am biased because I dont like apartments!)

If you do decide to live in an apartment though, it would be a good idea to consider apartments that are on a bus route, particularly routes 35 and 36 which go right by shands and the nursing building. I currently live in a complex called University Commons and it is a really quick ride to shands on the 35 or 36. You can find out more about the bus routes on go-rts.com. You don't have to worry about finding a place yet though, most apartments here are not filled to capacity and you will have plenty of time after hearing your admission decision in March.

Hi everyone! I just discovered this forum and am excited to see other people in the same boat as me. I am a UF undergraduate student right now. I will be graduating in may. I was wondering if anyone could give me advise on the resume. Should it be concise to fit a page (like when you apply for a job) or is it supposed to be really detailed? I just recently stumbled upon this program, which is why I am applying so last minute!

Mine is 1 1/2 pages long. You have a couple more days to get it in... you can do it!

Is that tuition only or total cost? Right now, the estimated cost of attendance (including tuition, living expenses estimates, etc.) is about 28-29k at UF.

And yeah, the apartments here are pretty reasonable. There are several within walking distance of the nursing building and hospitals. I live in a place on bus route 35 (plus a few other routes). The buses are great...except when there's clinical at 6:45am and the buses haven't started running! Parking on campus is a huge pain.

My advice for out-of-towners is to sublet if you are moving in the summer...which may not be the case for the new fall start date. There is also a free service in town called Apartment Hunters who can help you find a place.
