Anyone who is in, or has been in, Florida's Loan Forgiveness program can you please tell me when to expect a payout? The deadline was Jan. 29th. I turned my paperwork in a few weeks ahead of the deadline and am not sure how long to wait before I contact them as to when to expect the payout or if they even got my paperwork. I realize working with a state agency I should be patient, but am curious.

Thanks to anyone who can help. :)

I was also wondering and called them yesterday 1-800-342-8660 (Option 5). According to the person I spoke with, they are in the process of reviewing their budget and may not be able to disperse as much money as they anticipated. She said they would be sending out letters to those who would not be receiving funds after all. I think this is extremely unfair and plan to email my state reps and Gov. Christ if I can find his email addy. Not sure it will do any good, but I'll give it a shot. You never know, if enough of us make a fuss, maybe they will reconsider.

Crap. I realize we're in a depression, but that definitely is not fair because that comes out of our own budget that we pay for when we renew our license. What are they doing with our money??? They used the loan forgiveness to justify tripling our license cost back in a day.

Thanks for the information. Guess I'll wait a bit and I'll definitely make a fuss.

I got my payout this past week sometime. I made a payment on March 23rd and had a full balance and I checked it yesterday and they paid off $4,000.00. I'm happy because that has lowered my monthly payment as well has lowered the balance to under $3,000. w00t!

I realize we're in a depression,

Actually, we are in a recession. I know the press likes to highlight how "bad" things are.....and this is because it is more dramatic and it sells. The truth is, the 1970/80s (Carter era) was much worse than we are experiencing now. We had the savings and loan rescues and the rescue of Chrysler, double digit unemployment (current unemployment went to 8.5%), double digit interest rates (for all credit including mortgages....mortgages eventually came down but credit card companies kept theirs high because they would make so much money) and double digit inflation (whereas current situation is a deflation....leading potentially to severe inflation because of the borrowing of the Administration).

Please understand that many in the media will paint it they way they want you to hear it. (This is as true for MSNBC - the most left media as it is for FOX - the most right media.) When Clinton was running for the presidency, the 'mainstream' media painted Reaganomics as the worst economic policy in history. That helped get Clinton elected. The REALITY was CARTER, who had just preceeded Reagan was the worst. Reaganomics actually turned our recession into a growth and we had unprecedented economic growth from Reagan - thru Clinton and the first 6 years of Bush.

Regarding the payments.....I would love to have my SLs paid back....but if it were a choice between receiving "my" loan forgiveness or having teachers, police, fireman (etc) keep their jobs, I would take the latter. No it isn't "fair" that license cost is tied to this program and the payouts won't be there. My point is the state has a budget shortfall and we all must look at what is in the best interest of the state instead of ourselves. (Did I just say that?!?!? LOL! I am a staunch Republican! :coollook: ) And remember...as always...this is just MHO. :D

tweety, i would like to apply for this program for the june deadline. how do i find out if my hospital participates? they are a trauma center but not sure if they qualify technically as a "teaching" hospital since the only residents are from FAU.

i guess the HR people would be able to tell me? or is it better to call the NSLFP myself?

There use to be a list of facilities participating online somewhere but I can't find it. But your HR should know, or you can call them.

Good luck!

Hi Tweety,

Thanks for the heads up. I just checked and have not received a payment. Guess I'll have to make some calls today. Glad you got yours though :yeah:
