RNs in Miami

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Hey all- I'm trying to start a current thread for the job opportunities for RNs in the Miami area. My girlfriend and I will be relocating to the Miami area in roughly a year and a half. By then my girlfriend will have finished the direct entry RN program at Simmons College up in Boston.

My only worry is that all you hear from the Florida area is bad news when it comes to job opportunities. Most jobs we've found for the Miami area hospitals have asked for a year of experience. What's the best way for her to get that experience if everyone asks for it? How strict are they when it comes to that experience? Also what are the best hospitals or other job opportunities offered in the Miami area. I'll be working in the Doral area and would be more than willing to make a tough commute anywhere if that opens up some opportunities for her. Pretty much I'm looking for any sort of guidance. Thanks so much.

Right now, it is kind of difficult to find a job as a new RN in Miami. I did not look in Miami because I wanted to move out of the area but some of my classmates have found work in the area. A few people I know got jobs at Miami Children's and a handful got hired at Mt. Siani. Baptist does not hire new grads outside of their Baptist Scholars program and neither does Jackson.

Many of my classmates found jobs in Broward County.

That being said, who knows what the market will be like in a year and a half? Good luck

Doral is a pretty good area--you are pretty much in the middle of everything. You got all the Health district hospitals to the east(UM, Jackson, Mt. Sinai), Some to the south(Mercy, Homestead, Baptist), North(Palmetto, Northshore)--there is a whole bunch more than that. Plus Miami is filled with Baptist outpatient centers. I go to the Doral one all the time. Don't really know what else to tell you. I graduate in '13 so I am pretty freaked also. :|

I graduated with my ADN in NY and moved down here last June. Got my license in October of 2010. I have not gotten one phone call for an interview. I have applied to over 96 jobs and not one call back. I have 2 great written recommendations from my professor and clinical instructor and still nothing. My overall GPA is a 3.25. Still, nothing, just the same generic reply messages, or the "sorry we only hire from our scholarship programs". I have since started my BSN this past January only because it was my only option. I hope by the time that you do come down here to the Miami area that things will get better and you will find employment. At least that is my hope.
