Can anyone give me any insight into Orange Park Medical Center ? I know they have (had?) a bad rep...but have heard there have been alot of positive changes w/ a new DON? I am esp. interested in the GN program and the PCU or Med/Surg floors. Please, any info you can share would be great!

They have a GN sign on bonus that will bind you in a 2 year contract. I'm understanding (from some of my fellow classmates who applied) that if you quit & can't pay the bonus back it's in the contract that they will come after your property. OP is a for profit facility...their door swings alot & they're always short staffed.

I haven't heard anything positive about that place. The patients that I have cared for who had previously received care at OP didn't have anything good to say...sorry.

They don't hire LPNs. As a former pt there, I was in for 4 days and NEVER got (offered or done) a bath. Rep is terrible from pt and employee points of view.

Wow! I am really sorry that OPMC has turned out that way. I worked as a MA for one of the clinics they had when it was Humana Hospital..I worked at Argyle Family Practice, that was in the mid 80s to early 90s...I don't even know if that clinic is still standing....I know the history of the hospital and the Dr. that had alot of imput getting it started, not even sure if he's still alive...definitely dating myself...

I really hate to hear that the care has gone down, had surgery there myself and the care was excellent...its a pity

My dad was a patient there in the 1990"s and was never offered any hygiene assistance (paralysis). The case workers were a joke and threatened to place him on the street if I didn't come and get him (he was VA subsidized)

I had subordinates who worked there and the stories they told me were horrendous about the care! Too many patients, sloppy medicine, docs making errors and blaming nurses.

Can't say if this is the case now, but it was then. I live about 8 miles from there, and my husband had a CVA in August. I drove him 45 minutes away to another hospital to avoid OPMC!

I am doing my clinical there now and I really like it. The nurses are nice, we nursing students give baths to almost every patient on our floor and usually the PCT has already done it by the time we get there. I don't know how it is actually working there, but it seems nice to me. When I was at Baptist, I never ever saw the nurse. I would tell them something about their patient (like an IV site being red and swollen) and they would not come in there. They would write that they assessed their patients but as 1st term nursing students, we stayed in the room for most of the day and never saw them.

its sad to think that nursing care is substandard no matter where one gets treatment. i have always said that going to nursing school or having a medical background is defensive training that we can have for ourselves and our loved ones.

thank you for the information. and its enlightening to know that opmc has improved their care.:heartbeat
