Jacksonville Area Student Nurses

I see a lot of students who come to the forums here for help with their studies. I was wondering if there is a market for tutoring in the Jacksonville area, specifically for student nurses? Do any of the local schools offer tutoring? If they do, is it with other students, faculty, recent graduates, other?

I know that FCCJ strongly encourages tutoring for students who need it. I am in the evening/weekend program at FCCJ (Term 1). The issue with those of us in N/E would be simply time. The vast majority of us are older, work full time and attend nursing school.

One place I would think you could be helpful would be for all those private schools like Everest were they may not get adequate instruction. Not sure how good the school in Jax is because I have never attended one of these "private" colleges.

Good luck.

Thanks so much for your response. After reading about the issues at Everest and a few of the other programs, I have to wonder if those students realize that they aren't getting quality instruction? Obviously they realize that they're not passing NCLEX, but by then it's too late for tutoring for homework. It's scary the things that are going on with nursing education in Florida.

How does tutoring work at FCCJ? It is done by other students? Graduates of the program? Experienced nurses?

Honestly, I am not sure. I have to go to campus today, so maybe I can get some info for you.

FLmom, how is ur first semester going? We were in the same chat before, i had to give up my position for last semester but reapplied this term. Can you tell me what to expect?

Its been tough/good at the same time. I got my job back and started the day after the 1st day of the semester....so I am working full time plus doing the 12 cr of 1st term!

My brother (and RN in Manhattan) told me to kiss my A's good-bye. I should shoot to pass! LOL

Currently I have an A is Assessment and an 89 (mid-B) in the other 3. Although clinicals technically started this past weekend, it was really an orientation to the hospital (I missed because of my parent's 50th Anniversary in NY! :D ). This saturday will be the first real clinical. Nervous!!!!

With my background, the Dosage Calc tests were a cinch. (I got a 100 on all 3! :D :yeah:) The material is not really "hard" per se....it is the VOLUME of material you have to learn in such a short period of time!

What I do have to say is that I LOVE the nights/weekend group! We all support each other and I think I may just be making some life long friends!

Keep in touch and let me know how it is going for you!

Did you find out anything about the tutoring?

At FCCJ tutoring is done by Mrs. Emily or was when I was there last year. If you wanted more help then you might be able to find a nursing student from a previous semester and they might be willing to tutor you. Or, like in my case, I got a previous students notes, and that was pretty much what was on the test. (bad I know)

If you really wanted to you could always make a flyer and post it in front of the nursing office and see if anyone calls. Remember its at north campus.
