Hello all,

I thought I would start a thread for those of us applying to HCC's Spring 2013 nursing program. I am a Veterinary Technician/stay at home mom. I'm gathering everything for my application and hoping to drop it off at HCC soon. The deadline isn't until 6/1 but they recommend turning it in at least 30 days in advance. I'm a current HCC student. I was planning on applying for Fall this year, but am now expecting a little girl to arrive in July so spring it is! My pre-req GPA is 3.86 (all A's and 1 B), I'm hoping that this is good enough to get me a spot in the program for DM evening classes. Good luck to all!

Hello everyone and welcome those who just joined.

RnNtrainng, thanks again for sharing your experience with us. I remember you guys were talking about buing books online ahead and learning calculations and so on. Was it worth buying those books that much in advance, or is it ok to buy those books during orientation and study after that? What do you recommend to study ahead? How many days a week you have clinicals?

Anybody dropped the programm after first year? Do they epxlain well how to figure out those 100% answers vs those 80% correct ones? Which hospitals are better for clinicals and what did you do during clinicals? Thanks again for info

I am so glad someone started this post! I am applying for Spring 2013 at DM campus evening classes and just sent my application off this morning! My pre-requisite gpa is a 3.6 and I'm really hoping that is good enough. A friend of mine is in the program at PC going into her second year and she basically said that you can forget about whatever social life you may have had because the program is so consuming but totally worth it. She loves it and doesn't mind the sacrifice. She also mentioned to try to get your books early (as soon as you receive your acceptance letter) because you will be tested on about 10 chapters within the first few weeks of class. Not sure if it is that way at DM as well but I'm taking her advice and studying ahead. GOOD LUCK to everyone that is applying! Let the tortuous 5 months of waiting begin! :)

Just wanted to say welcome KKJA8855, good to see another Night applicant like me, was beginning to feel like the only one so far. :) I'm a little behind you with a 3.52 but I don't think we have much to worry about. Best wishes to you.

Thank you Gradius! I think my actual gpa is around a 3.59 and if we're the minority among applicants (evening classes) I think we've got a pretty good shot at getting accepted! We got this :) Good luck to you as well!

hi everyone!

i have also applied for spring 2013 at dm (nights/weekends). good luck to everyone!

Specializes in Neuro ICU.

I'm also applying for the DM Nights/Weekend program. I'm almost ready to apply, just have to wait for my transcript from SPC. My prereq GPA will be 3.78.

Welcome both dg2013 and shauny2k3. Good to see some more "night applicant buddies" like me. :) I will be submitting my app as soon as my last transcript arrives in the mailbox, eagerly awaiting it meanwhile. Best of luck to both of you.

hey guys! i'm new here and two things:

1. how do i go about completing the application for the nursing program? (i've completed all my prerequisites). who would i go to get the application?

2. i'm really nervous about my grades, i completed a couple of the prerequisites (sociology, mac) before i even decided to go into nursing, so i didn't do as well as i should have.

welcome shakeitoff219, first off. if my calculations are correct you have a 3.14. based on prior spring threads, the acceptance cutoff is usually 3.4ish. however dependent on the applicant pool that may put you in the alternate range.

the app however is here:

Woo hoo, last paper transcript I needed (the most important one actually) arrived today. Off to the Post Office I go before 5pm!

Just received all transcripts this week. I am hand delivering it next Tuesday to the Dale Mabry campus. I even went the extra step to request my transcripts from HCC when I graduated in 1993 so there would be NO problems. I am PRAYING that a 3.71 will be high enough to get into the day program at the dale mabry campus. I SOOOO don't want to take the TEAS test to apply to PHCC. Fingers crossed!

Yay congrats Gradius! If you're anything like me now you'll be stalking hawknet daily to find out when they receive your application! LOL I sent mine off on Monday but it still hasn't shown up in My Documents.

Good luck to you sprmomof4! :) A 3.71 will most likely get you in, I wouldn't worry about a thing!
