florida hospital or orlando health for new grad pay

U.S.A. Florida

I am trying to compare the two hospitals Florida hospital and Orlando health. I know the starting salary at Orlando health is $22.50/hr for BSN and $21.30/hr for associates, the nurse patient ratio is 1 to 5, and night differential is $8.75 and weekends $3.20. Has anyone got accepted in the new grad program at Florida hospital if so can you share the location and floor starting pay for new grads, shift differential? What it is like working at Florida hospital? For example, the work environment and support from staff members along with how long the training is based upon the unit or floor you work on. Thanks.

ok great thanks good luck with everything and maybe I will see you down there next year

I just moved to Orlando from MA. I graduated with my BSN and I currently hold an FL license. I was contacted by FH recruiter once and she seemed to like me. I sent my references and later got a email saying someone else was selected for the position. My application still say under consideration. I really need a job, but everyone wants experience and FH never contacted me again… I don't know what to do! HELP

The way it works is that a recruiter interviews you and then they send their applications out to each department according to your preferences. Each department then picks the GNs they want to interview. If I'm not mistaken the posting is still up for this cycle (July/August). If you don't get selected for this cycle apply for the next one (I believe they have one in October) and when you pick your preferences pick a more varied selection so you are not picking what everyone else is also picking. I know ICUs, ER, and peds is the most competitive. This way you'll increase your changes, when I spoke to the recruiter I let her know that I like many things and although ICU was my top choice I would also really enjoy Med/Surge. Hope that helps :)

Yes I definitely think that choosing what I really want to do Peds was a bad choice. I can't really wait into the next round… I really need a job moving to a different state when u don't know anyone is very hard as a new grad. Well thank you for the insight I hope you will get selected for the program!

For now try looking in other settings if your situation is tight (ie clinics, LTCs, etc.) until you can get what you really want. I know how tough it is because I spent months and countless applications looking for a job and finally got this one and I'm relocating; but don't get discouraged and keep trying!

Hello I was recently picked for the new Grad program I interviewed for 2 locations I got the email saying I wasnt picked for one But I ended up being offered another position at another location. So dont feel discouraged another campus might pick you up be very open with your preferences that will help!!!The big thing is to get your foot in the door!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank so much for the reply… It is nice to know that there are plp out there in a similar situation who understands my pain! I feel like I have been like forgotten because I have not heard anything since the initial interview… I just got a call from a office they schedule an interview but the pay is definitely much lower than I expected (even thou I lowered my expectations by a lot) I don't want to pass on this opportunity but I don't want to hold on hopes only. :(

That is how FL pay for nurses is across the board. The offer I got from FH is comparable to hospitals down in Miami (where I live) although cost of living is more expensive where I am.

Does anyone know in what month the new grad programs in South Florida will be accepting applications? I'm graduating in December and I don't want to miss the window. Orlando and Jacksonville also..Thanks

How do you like it? I have received a call from HR for a PCU and med/surg 2. Two different HR persons and I wanted to see what each had to say for pay rate, because I know its up to HR for pay amount, Med-surg 2 was about 23 something which is a major paycut for me. I make 28.55 here in chicago but relocating to orlando in march. I had interviewed for baptist health in miami which offered me 26.09/hr, but I decided miami was not going to be a good location for me. I have my BSN and about 1.5 years of experience in Neuro/stroke unit. I thought I would be worth more than $23. Plus how is the cost of living? I don't want to get stuck in a contact for 2 years and struggle. Any suggestions?

Is this for Fl hosp? Make sure u inquire about the bonus they are offering for PCU and med surge experienced nurses... Also they pay 23 to new grads so u should def negotiate that...

thanks..yea I thought that was a little low and the whole contract thing kind of scares me. He did offer me a bonus but still i would like 25/26. If they decide to move forward after my phone interviews than I def have to be careful what I am signing up for.
