florida hospital or orlando health for new grad pay

U.S.A. Florida

Published

I am trying to compare the two hospitals Florida hospital and Orlando health. I know the starting salary at Orlando health is $22.50/hr for BSN and $21.30/hr for associates, the nurse patient ratio is 1 to 5, and night differential is $8.75 and weekends $3.20. Has anyone got accepted in the new grad program at Florida hospital if so can you share the location and floor starting pay for new grads, shift differential? What it is like working at Florida hospital? For example, the work environment and support from staff members along with how long the training is based upon the unit or floor you work on. Thanks.

I got offered a GN position at Florida Hospital (PCU unit) - which I declined.

I have a ASN and I was offered $21.87.

Raised to $22.53 after I finish my BSN.

Differential 12% 3p-11p ; 15% 11p-7a ; 13% weekend and 35% nights.

I accepted an offer to work at Orlando Health (ICU unit)

GN starting pay with an ASN $21.90

Will raise to 22.50 after BSN

Only differential offered were

8.75 nights and 3.20 weekends

I start the GN program the first week of February and some of my other GN classmates start on

the next round which is on April.

So does this imply that there is another differential in addition to this?

Curious, why did you decline?

These are the numbers given to me by HR.

I'm sorry, I don't understand your question as to what am I implying... : )

Reason I declined FH?

Fl hosp information forms that were given to me read:

Graduate (GN) nurse: $13,500 contract

meaning I would have to reimburse FH that amount if I did not complete contract

Orlando Health also has a 2yr contract but the amount was a small fraction.

Yes, I plan on working at any place for 2years plus

however, I did not feel comfortable signing a contract like

especially since I had the option to opt for either place.

I have been a tech for both hospital within the last year,

and I got to tell you they are both great places to work for!

Understandable. A lot of people shy away after seeing the contract. Now I wonder what the turnover rate is. Hmmmm

Congrats on your position! I did the opposite from you bc I wanted ER and ORMC wasn't staffing that anymore.

I was hired at florida hospital in Oct as a new grad. It has been an enjoyable experience. I was accepted into an ICU program so there's lots to remember and keep track of.[/quote']

Hello,

I intend to apply to FH ICU program. I graduate in May. Any words of advice? Additionally, do you have any idea of when FH will begin accepting applications for June/July?

Thanks

Florida hospital really wants BSNs UNLESS you went to their nursing program Adventist University. They are wanting to have the 80%nurses BSN to work towards being Magnet. I took a position with Orlando Health in their GN residency program I start in April. It's my experience with finding a job, OH is more accepting of new grads the FH. If you look up FH nurse residency program there are NO positions open except Senior Nurse Tech. I would encourage everyone to get their BSN because its hard enough finding a job as a new nurse, with both of these major hospitals wanting their Magnet status, they are wanting 80% nurse staff to hold BSNs.

Has anyone participated in the Florida Hospital EDNIP program? I have an interview for this in a few weeks with the Educator in charge of this program (I already had an interview with the ED Nurse Manager) and was wondering what to expect?

Are you BSN or associates? And do you know if any associate degree nurses were hired for the new grad position? I applied and am waiting a response. I have an associates, bachelors currently in progress. Thanks

Hello I am graduating nursing school in May and I am really interested in applying for the residency program at FH. Does anybody have any insight when is it a good time to apply? Also I was wondering if any body knows when will the next program start accepting application! I really appreciate any help!!

I completed the EDNIP program with Florida Hospital 2 years ago. I have my ADN with a Bachelors in Health so I qualified for the BSN pay scale. I was started at $22.23 with diff of 2.6% and 3.3%. Honestly if you are only interested in who pays 5 cents more you are not thinking about your career correctly. If you get offered a position take it! Getting your foot in the door is the hardest part. If you don't feel you can handle the EDNIP position ask about trying another floor. They want to keep you if you are a hard worker and honest so don't feel bad about not loving what you initially got hired for. We had some nurses go to Peds, PCU and Peds ER after starting EDNIP because it just wasn't what they envisioned and that's ok. My only advice is to make sure you are ready to stay with them for 2 years because it is hell trying to break your contract. They will make you repay every bit you have left if you leave early and it's not cheap. Each year they revise their contracts so don't just go on what someone told you....READ YOUR CONTRACT! It was a great experience....HARD! but worth it. I learned so much and I am such a stronger nurse from going through EDNIP.

Hi! I'm a NICU nurse with 3 years of experience, looking to relocate to central/west Florida, can anyone tell me how is the job market for RN's in Florida? are there jobs opportunities for us?

With your three years experience, you have a good chance of finding work. I live in southwest florida and there are positions opened for experienced nurses in sarasota and fort myers. The cost of living in fort myers is very reasonable compared to central florida. Good luck and you will enjoy the year round warm weather.

Thank you so much for your response, I really hope I can find a job fast.
