Its very depressing :( , cant find a job here in California.

ok folks, so i heard it's hard to find work as a new grad rn no matter where one is in the country unless you currently work there as a cna or a tech or you know someone who can get you in. what i have done to avoid the headach when i get out of school is, i have applied to work at a ltc facility. i had an interview today and yesterday. it looks promising. i did a urine analysis today and filled out all the paper works (w4) and now they are just waiting on my background check to comeback which they say takes 5-10 days. this is all thanks to my classmate who works there as a cna and gave me an "in". i figure i'll work there until i finish school and then get promoted as an rn there while i look for work in a hosp. in eastern NC! this way i wont have to drivemyself nuts finding a job and i will go to NC with some experience under my belt. wish me luck

Good Luck!!!!!

It is extremely ******* difficult. I just moved to Baltimore, MD and am trying to find a job in the same area as D.C./Virginia/MD. No one is hiring, mainly because it is very expensive to train us. ($20,000-30,000). It's is really discouraging, because the last state that I did all my BON stuff was very quick and professional. The MD BON is lazy. They never answer their phones. I don't get why an application has to be SNAIL MAILED to me. If they put PDF files on their website, then it would make BOTH the applicant and the company run more efficiently.

I have applied to 20 job applications and I keep getting the same email response: "We are not hiring graduate nurses."

I have seriously considered going to get my CNA certification if they are not hiring Graduate Nurses. It just makes me mad. I got my BSN to not be able to find a job. BSN to CNA is certainly a downgrade in pay...and it costs another $1000 that I really do not have.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm running at my wits end and have become incredibly discouraged.

it doesnt cost $1000 to get your cna certificate the most it will cost is $200 that's the fee to take the test and have background check done if you dont have a copy of your background check. because you are already a nuse you DO NOT need to take cna classes you can challenge the exam. furthermore, have you tried long term care? it's not hospital work like most of you want but it's income! have you tried working for an agency such as bayada nurses, i heard it doesnt have really good perks but it does provide the experience that you need to GET IN a hospital! i wish you good luk on your Job Search:yeah:

I paid about $1000 when taking my CNA course. Then I paid another fee when it came time to test.

you got ripped offffffffffffffff:eek: THE MOST IT COST for THE COURSE IS $300-395. but hey you found someone who was looking to make some quick cash. one can challenge the test without taking the course in most states which as i stated before will cost around $ 200 the fee you pay the state and background check if you dont have a copy of a recent one. if you are already a nurseYOU DO NOT NEED TO TAKE THE CNA COURSE -CHALLENGE THE EXAM! though i dont know that one can work as a cna when they are already an RN students who have pass their first nursing semester are able to get licensed without taking a cna course though your professor whould have to send a form to the state validating that you are competent to have a license, etc.

I have been looking in The DC/MD/VA since last month! With no interviews yet! I have applied to nearly every hospital within a 45 mile radius! I just try to remember to constantly re-check hospital sites just in case new jobs have been posted!

I too have been searching in the DC/MD/VA area since Nov 2010. I graduated Dec 11 2010 and my NCLEX is Tuesday. I have had no luck. It doesn't help that when employers see my resume and see that I graduated from University of Central Missouri and I have a base address. My husband got stationed at Bolling AFB in July. I feel like they look at me as say oh...podunk Missouri....or well she's from military she'll only be here a couple years. All of my classmates got jobs back in Missouri....so disheartening!

I've apploed to everything in my area within an hour or 1.5 hour without counting traffic. Also I contacted Military to Medicine and I was so aggrivated that the person they set me up with to help me find jobs suggested I work as a CNA!!!!!! I've been a CNA since I was 17 and in high school! I DID NOT go through a BSN RN program to become a CNA!!! AHH!

I sympathize with all those GNs who have not been able to find jobs and fully understand why you would not want to essentially take a step back and become a CNA. In this extremely challenging job environment, extraordinary measures are probably necessary to find that all-important first job.

Very few (less than 10%) of my May '10 graduating class have been able to find jobs and that nearly all who did were CNAs or techs at the hospitals that eventually hired them. It is important to note that most of that 10% had also passed the NCLEX - I'm aware of only 1 person from my class who was hired into a nursing position while still "only" a GN.

The nursing job market is extremely tough right now and it may well be worthwhile to take a step back in order to move forward.

My Husband also is in the Airforce and I told the hospital first off when Interviewed but I was offered the job on the spot during my interview North FL is hiring if anyone is in that area the cost of living isn't bad at all here in North FL same as north Alabama for the most part. Best Wishes though to all!

get the job in the nursing home if offered because working in a nursing home is better than no experience at all which will be hard to land a hospital job later on:nurse:

I was concerned that if I start in a nursing home, I'll be "typecast" as a person who isn't able to work in acute care, or won't be able to keep up with a fast pace or something. It is that way with lawyering, is it not like that in nursing?
