Its very depressing :( , cant find a job here in California.

I know what you mean, I can't find one here in New York. How long have you been looking? I have been looking since March 2010 with no success. I don't know what else to do.

you can't find work in ny where in ny do you live?

I have been doing the same as well applying to the tristate area (NY/NJ/CT). I had about three interviews so far but only with nursing homes. Something will come through for us pretty soon, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for us. Good luck and keep me posted!!

get the job in the nursing home if offered because working in a nursing home is better than no experience at all which will be hard to land a hospital job later on:nurse:

No there aren't that many new grad jobs in NYC. I live in the Bronx. Are you from NYC as well??

You are absolutely right. I was offered a job with a nursing home and I accepted the offer. It is better than no experience at all. I start the first week in January!!

Hey, I'm in Florida and I am having the same problem. I don't think that it's the economy at all...statistics clearly show nursing shortages all across the country. It's the hospitals that are not wanting to spend the time/money to train new nurses. They feel like they are paying for 2 people to do a job meant for one person, it's not in many of their budgets. Instead, they ask for experienced nurses and wait for someone to leave their current job to work for them while working the ones they have on staff double time. Some of my class mates have jobs, they are the ones who know someone working at the facility or have been working there as a patient care tech. I'm sick of "waiting" for new graduate nurse programs to "pop up". I'm expanding my search in other states, but many of them won't even look at your application if you don't have a license for their state-as if you can't change it when you get hired-duh!

My friend told me that Nursing Home exp. is not really considered as exp. Can anyone here verify this?.. Thanks

Nursing Home RN experience is not an acute care experience but still an RN experience. Some hospitals hire nurses with at least 1 year RN experience and some specifically requires an acute care experience.

ok folks, so i heard it's hard to find work as a new grad rn no matter where one is in the country unless you currently work there as a cna or a tech or you know someone who can get you in. what i have done to avoid the headach when i get out of school is, i have applied to work at a ltc facility. i had an interview today and yesterday. it looks promising. i did a urine analysis today and filled out all the paper works (w4) and now they are just waiting on my background check to comeback which they say takes 5-10 days. this is all thanks to my classmate who works there as a cna and gave me an "in". i figure i'll work there until i finish school and then get promoted as an rn there while i look for work in a hosp. in eastern NC! this way i wont have to drivemyself nuts finding a job and i will go to NC with some experience under my belt. wish me luck
