Which job to take?

Job 1: Been there 7 months and I do like it. About a 50 mile commute roundtrip. Hours can be crazy, but lately have been good. Full benefits. Slightly crazy staff.

Job 2: New offer in surgery. I don't know anyone. Full time with benefits. Less than a mile from home. 6-12 month orientation period. Offering 1 dollar less per hour than I am currently making.

No idea how to make up my mind. I do like my current job, but it's so far away. I am terrified to go back to those feelings of nervousness where you have no clue how to do anything because you're the newbie.

Think about it long term. Which one will be better for you in the years to come? There must be a reason why you applied to the surgery job if you already have a job that you do like.

I mostly applied because it's SO close to home. I hate spending 2 hours driving everyday.

Specializes in Family Nurse Practitioner.

Time is money. Your sanity is worth the one dollar less an hour. Surgery is a great field. Is this an OR job, recovery, or surgical inpatient? The 6 to 12 month orientation period tells me that this is a good employer and more likely this job is not surgical inpatient.

Specializes in M/S, LTC, Corrections, PDN & drug rehab.

Take the new job, even though it's $1 less an hour it's close to home so the money you spend in gas is probably equal to the new pay. Plus it's full time with benefits.

I TOOK IT!!!!!

And it's in the OR :)))

great decision :)

Specializes in L&D, infusion, urology.

Congrats! I hope you love it! I agree that you made the right choice. :)

Having a job that you "love"?: Priceless.

Starting over for one small reason?: I wouldn't do it.

In fact, I would.seriously consider moving.closer to the job you know and love!

Oh no no. Love is WAAAAY too strong of a word. I said I like it. :) and some days I just tolerate it! But I suppose that is true a lot of places!! But I sure don't love it!!!!!!

Also, I would never move out here. It's in the middle of nowhere. Just not for me. I live in a major city with probably 50 hospitals across the city? It's easier for me to switch hospitals and preferable than to uproot and move to the middle of nowhere. But if I did LOVE it then I might consider that :)
