Sample Resume and Cover letter for New grad

Nurses New Nurse

Published

Hey All,

I am going to be a new grad and would apppreciate it if anyone can send me a sample resume and cover letter. I had a degree in Computer Science so my current resume is more like the engr resume. Looking @ applying for a job in Nashville.

Just send it to me as a personal message.... Thanks a lot.

I think the key is to not overwhelm hiring managers with your past experience on a resume. Just a few sentences to highlight skills that will still apply when you are a nurse.

The nursing process is similar to what happens in many corporate settings when planning and evaluating projects and campaigns: assess, diagnose, plan, implement, evaluate.

Your customer service is valuable: you want to make sure every customer's experience is the best it can be (just like you will for your patients).

And you probably have supervisory experience as well (just as you will delegate to CNAs) and have worked with multiple teams to make sure projects are completed.

On my resume, after all my nursing school and CNA experience and education, I have just a few sentences about my past corporate life (key phrases in bold and company specifics deleted here). Now, I've been on a few nursing interviews, and no one has mentioned my past corporate experience, but it does show responsibility and longevity, and at least it makes me feel better that my past experience is not wasted.

I also have a lot of volunteer experience listed at the end of my resume. I think it adds a nice balance to the dry corporate stuff... especially because some of the organizations I've volunteered for have been health/disease related.

After 3 year ++ now. where you able to land a nursing job ?

Anyone get hired without a cover letter? I have sent a couple of resumes out without cover letters. I wonder if they will throw them away now.

I would highly, HIGHLY recommend you submitting a cover letter with each resume you send out. It will definitely make a difference you an employer is considering you for an interview. you can certainly google new rn grad cover and you can find a lot of sample cover letters. Hope that helps!!

Totally unrelated, but I am a UD grad (which is where the sample resume/cover letter is from) and was very impressed by how much they prepared us for job hunting. Many of our assignments included writing our resume & cover letter. I have more samples that we were given in class if anyone wants me to scan them in.

Hey,

If you wouldn't mind, I would love to have a scanned copy of those sample cover letters/CV's.

Thank you so much.

I really appreciate it :)

Hi All! Really appreciate all the great advice on resumes and cover letters! Now I don't feel like the only one with these kinds of challenges (6 mos post NCLEX, Stay @ home mom for 16 yrs, new grad)! Wish me luck... Will post if I come across further good advice.
