Retaking NCLEX in another state

Does anyone know the process for applying to another state to retake NCLEX-RN? I just found out yesterday that I failed boards and I will have to wait 91 days to retake it. That just seems like a really long time! I know that most states only make you wait 45 days. Is it hard to apply to another state and then transfer your license? Do you have to reside in the state you're applying to? Please help!

I would seriously rethink what you are trying to do. First of all, you would need to apply to that state and begin the process all over again. They won't be as familiar as your state with your school, so you are only going to get held up. Next, there is a place that asks if you have taken NCLEX before, and if so, what was your score. You are going to have difficulties with that.

Instead of running around in circles take the time to prepare properly for the exam. There is a reason that states have timeframes as they do. Yo uhave no idea of what type of questions that you will have on your next exam and I can guarantee that most will not be the same. Especially if your goal is to go to anesthesia school.

Hi...I retested through SC on 7/18 b/c I live in GA and our waiting time is 91 days too. The process was simple. I filled out a SC license (printed through their website) and then had the school I attended send my transcripts and fill out one form SC requires...within one week I had my ATT. I am anxiously awaiting my results this morning. I am so nervous b/c I had all 265 questions the first time and the second time it shut off like at 175 questions...I can't imagine going through this torture of waiting again! I wish you luck and let me know if I can answer any more questions for you.

It is a very helpingful info. 91 days are too too long.

I live in Georgia, too. How long did you wait after the 1st time that you started your paperwork on SC. And then how long does it take to transfer the license back to Georgia.... If you can do that in a week, then I would take the next time in SC. Anyway, I haven't found out the result yet.... I had 265 questions... Hope God will be on my side.....

And what did you put on the application where it asks if you have taken NCLEX previously?

Then you still need to endorse back to your home state. In my opinion, a complete waste of time. How much time are you actually going to save all said and done?

I disagree with it being a waste of time...I too failed in GA and then retested 45 days later through SC...It only took SC four days to mail my actual license to my home...I already had known through quick results that I had passed 48 hours after I took the test...they have already filled my verification form out for Georgia and now I am just waiting for Georgia to approve the application I mailed yesterday; they tell me it will be posted online in a couple of days after receipt of the SC verification form.

I put yes, I applied previously for Licensure and put the month and year...it helps b/c they will already have your school transcripts on file...

I sent you a private message.

I think that this is only applies in some states(especially tri-states), not all other states can really get these types of shortcuts, for example; CA.

Hello Moya696 did you ever get your RN transferred and if so how long did it take? I'm trying to do the same thing.
