Relocating to begin career. Anyone else?

My pinning is in three days and I get cut loose completely next week. Thursday I hit the road from south Florida to my new home in Pittsburgh. I think I've got my ducks pretty well lined up in a row. Job? check. I start Jan. 23. House? check. Got my little house on a hill. No furniture yet though. Just coming up with what's in my car. Car? check. Got a brand new set of new tires all the way around. Train tickets in hand? check. Got one for me and one for the car on the auto train.

So everything will be new. Trading in sandy beaches for snow covered hills and my student nurse handle for nurse. There will be a white Christmas for this Florida girl in all likelihood. Now... how do you drive on the stuff?

All kidding aside, I'm excited, scared, stressed and happy. I doubt that I'm alone. So grads, who else is leaving and how are you handling it?

I'm right there with you but I'm not relocating that far, just about 70 miles away into West Virginia. The people are so nice there compared to Washington DC and the house is great. I have interviews set up for next friday if this baby can stay inside for another week. If not then I guess I have to postpone but babies wait for no one right?

So what made you choose Pittsburg?

Driving through the DC beltway was an experience! Let me just say that the whole trip was an exercise in courage. West VA will be a nice place to raise kids. Best of luck on your interviews:nurse:and with your baby!

Why Pittsburgh? My kids and grandkids are here. As I "mature", I realize that they are what keeps us young and what life is all about... especially watching the grands grow and being a part of their lives. I'm a hands-on nana and don't want to miss the show. My son and daughter, each in their own time, moved from S. Florida to Pittsburgh. I know it's kind of opposite to what most people do but it worked for them. They are doing much better here up North than they did down there. South Florida is expensive and a tough place to make a start for young people. I don't think it's a children-friendly place either. Just my opinion.

I'm actually going to be relocating to the DFW area as well after graduating in Memphis this May of '06. My husband is from the area, and I really really am looking forward to moving back and starting my career! :rolleyes:

Hi! I still have 2 semesters to go until graduation, but I have a question. I will be graduationg from a program in Florida, but want to move to Chicago asap after graduation. I have been running myself ragged trying to figure out if I have to take the NCLEX in Florida, or if I can go and take them in Chicago. I have NO clue about these things, and also have no clue if I have to do something special to say I want my license to be in Illinois. Sorry if this is elementary stuff, but I am SO lost and getting so stressed out wondering how long it will take and what it will take to get working as a grad nurse and then RN in Illinois. If anyone can enlighten me, I'd love it!!

Hey guys:coollook: !! You don't know how elated I am to know that I am not the only one who has decided to relocate after graduation. I graduate Jan. 2007 (only b/c we don't go through the summer:icon_roll ) and I plan to move too. I haven't decided on where I am going yet b/c I am trying to include my son in on where we should go. I think I wanna move up in the mountains or by a nice lake. Basically I wanna go anywhere that is not here were I am now.

You are not alone... I am struggling with the decision to relocate or not... I am from Minneapolis, MN and have a job offer here and in Los Angeles. I am just thinking what a HUGE transition it will be to move and adjust to a new career...

i graduate in may06 from around the pittsburgh area and looks like i will be relocating to southern california!! very excited...very scared!!!:nurse:
