I'd do some resume swapping if I already had one ready to go. I'm actually kind of embarassed to say, I'm not sure where to start with my resume. I have experience as a firefighter/paramedic for a year, but no other medical experience other than my clinical time as a student. I graduate in December and would like to send in my resume to a couple of area hospitals, but I don't know if fear has me kinda dumbstruck.
If anyone can help/guide me I would GREATLY appreciate it!
Understandable. I am a career changer, too. Until recently I had no patient contact/care experience to list. I did not create a transferable skills type of resume, I put my education first and put my jobs second, starting with the most recent and going back approximately 10 years. I also listed volunteer work, which had some patient contact, and continuing education highlights; until I'd found work as a nurse, both volunteer work and continuing education were significant.

But your work as a firefighter and paramedic is excellent. If your faculty are not helpful -- mine were not -- I suggest you find your local unemployment office and see what they can offer you. The offices in my area have classes and workshops in resume writing and always address transferable skills for people who are retraining.

Check out the link from the first post in this thread, it goes here: http://allnurses.com/nursing-career-...you-84387.html

I hope you find an employer who gives you some credit for the paramedic stuff, too! You and I both know it's valuable experience in terms of assessing and managing a patient, in addition to the skills you possess. Good luck!
