Jobs say they require experience

Nurses New Nurse

I have a questions about job hunting after I get licensed, hopefully this coming July. I graduate in a month and a half!!! :nailbiting: :)

It doesn't look like I am going to get any of the internships I applied to as it is very, very competitive in my area, DFW. I am still waiting to hear from one in hopes I may get it but it is PRN and I will need to find another job anyway.

All the jobs on the market say 1-2 years of experience is required. I was planning to just apply to any and all jobs I find interesting. Will employers hire a new grad without experience. I am guessing they do, but I find it disconcerting that all the advertisement for jobs state that the nurse must have 1-2 years of experience.

I am just curious. Thanks!

Organizations that hire new grads know that they have to provide the resources it takes to support their transition from student to practicing nurse. If they don't have the resources, they are not willing to hire new grads - and only hire experienced nurses. So, it is unlikely that you will even be interviewed for a job that includes an "experienced only" requirement.

In DFW new grad nurses are only hired into the internships or residencies when it comes to acute care. They are not hired directly to the floor. You are correct that it is VERY competitive and most of the local hospitals, with a few exceptions, will no longer consider ASN degreed nurses, simply because they don't have to. There are more grads than there are jobs.

You will want to look outside of the immediate metroplex and at positions other than the hospital. Good luck to you!

Well, I got a job offer today. So I can stop worrying, assuming I pass the NCLEX!!!

I will be in a nurse residency (internship) after all on the post surgical floor!!
