failed out of nursing school.... now what?

Nurses New Nurse

Published

Hi everyone,

I'm new here so excuse me if i'm posting this tread in the wrong area. I need help! I was in my second semester of nursing school with only a year left before graduating with my BSN. I just recently failed my second course (OB/BYN) with puts me out of the program. I'm am sooo confused and mad at myself for not giving it my most. I feel like I let everyone in my family down including myself the most. I put in an appeal and just received the answer today that it was not approved. Now I dont know what my next move should be. Should I find a school that will allow me to transfer my credits that I have finished at my most recent school. Or should I just go and apply at a tech or community school and do the associate degree. I'm willing to move if i find a school that will allow me to transfer my finished credits. I'm on here looking for help to see if anyone knows any schools if there are any at all that will allow transfering of already passed nursing classes. I'm just wanting suggestions of what to do. desperate to finish nursing school. help!!!!!!!!!!:o

Hi there,

I don't know where you live, but I am in Virginia. So you failed. I know it sucks, but perhaps there is another school out there for you. If I were you, I would look into other schools and see what transfers.

I am an RN with an associates degree. I am not sure of your reason for wanting a BSN, but I have found that in most cases, the degree really doesn't matter if you are not going to specialize, teach, or go into research.

I know plenty of great nurses who failed out of school, then went back and got their degree. Don't let it get you down. Use it as a learning experience.

If you want info on schools in my area (Hampton Roads, Virginia), let me know.

I dont really have a specific reason for wanting a BSN. In general I just want to finish nursing school. I dont mind an associate degree and wonder myself why I didnt just stick to that in the first place. I just feel bad because I put so much time and money into it. Yes, I will take your suggestion and use it as a learning experience. I'm located in spartanburg, sc. thanks you so much for helping me. i guess i better get moving since school starts monday. I probably wont be getting in as quickly but maybe i can go and talk to the advisors to take something to help boost my gpa up and try getting in by fall. once again ... THANKS!

don't give up! life throws obstacles our way, whether it's as a student, or even day to day as a nurse - i know of a couple of people who failed out after 2nd and even third semester, one chose to attend another school, and is doing extremely well, and another friend just graduated this past december.

you can do it!!

best of luck to you,

:)

thanks so much shellsnyrn!!! the encouragement is just what i needed.

Sorry to hear of your troubles in school. I'd definitely look to see which school's would take your credits . Does your school have any articulation agreements with area colleges? Just beware that if you choose to do an associate program, it most likely will not be a cake walk either. Best of luck, don't give up!

We'll be rooting for you!

I would call every community college and 4 year college within 50 miles and find out whether you would be eligible to apply to enter their program and if your classes would transfer. You should probably try to get in contact with the person in charge of the nursing program and explain your situation. Im sure there has to be a way for you to continue your education somewhere else. Good luck!

Look into Spartanburg Tech's ADN program, as well as Greenville Tech's. I'm assuming you were at USC Upstate's BSN program, so you probably can't go back there unless you can sit out a semester until you can repeat your failed classes.

Clemson has a BSN program, you may be able to do some distance classes in the meantime..

I would try contacting Athabasca University (www.athabascau.ca) to see if any of your classes transfered and if you could finish up your BSN degree with them. It's a distance university located in Alberta, Canada- so I'm not sure about transferring credits to/from the US. I've taken a few classes through them and have really enjoyed it and I know that they offer nursing classes.

Good luck!

Yes, I did go there. Thats the thing... I would be willing to sit back a semester but I dont think they would even allow that. I'm thinking of calling them and doing the whole program again that the same school if they would allow that. Spartanburg Community College goes by a point system and only allows 30 students a semester. It seems its harder to get into the ADN program then the Bachelors program. By the way.. I love that quote!

Thank you for the information I'll look into that.

So, I just start feeling a little better after all this drama. I signed up for anatomy and physiology 1 just to score a better grade for the ADN program since they go by the point system. Had to pay out of pocket for classes and books. Then tonight I a former nursing classmate of mine calls me and informs me that she just got called back to nursing school cause a spot opened. I was happy for her but in my own mind I was wondering why and what was wrong with me that they didnt call me back. There I was again in tears. I just need to get over it but it's just sooo hard. I'm taking this way harder then I intended. I should have never put myself in this situation. I'm just feeling down.:o

Thank you guys for all your help with my situation. Helps motivate me to keep going.
