Exit Exam from Nursing School??

We had the HESI as an exit exam. But we also did HESIs the whole way along after each subject (OB. Peds, Pharm, Adult, etc). We had to get about the national average as well as the score that correlates with passing the NCLEX.

If the school is giving you a test that will illustrate your chances on boards- I would look at it as a good thing- yes it sucks you did not know about it prior.

Our school uses the ATI testing service and have had to do what hllybenn did throughout the program. We had to take a national test after each subject each semester.

We do have to take the ATI version of the practice NCLEX and pass it with a score higher than the national average on Monday. If we don't pass it, we don't pass the class. My guess is it is their way of keeping the NCLEX pass rate percentage for the school high...they won't let people who might not pass graduate. I don't agree with it, but it is one of the major ways schools keep their accreditation.

Love the joke. I agree with you. It's funny, I'm a nursing student too with the same obstacle to hurtle. Although I believe it's a good learning experience, I don't believe it should be mandatory to pass the coorifice. I would suggest you make your position known with the administration of your school. Just remember that success is failure in disguise. You will overcome, and be great in all your future endeavors:)

Maybe you're right. I have no idea who came up with having students perform above the national average to qualify for graduation - although I do have my suspicions. The thing is, is that if other schools have an exit exam, then I'll just have to pass ours. I'm not sure how many sections are on the exam, but one student passed all of the sections above the national average, and on one section, scored at the national average the first time, and at the national average on two sections the second time. Of course both results are failures. There's just somethi ng about all of this that just doesn't sit right with me.:uhoh21:

I took the HESI today. It wasn't an exit exam, in that we didn't have to pass in order to graduate, but all seniors took it. I did pretty well, that gives me a little confidence. I'm taking Kaplan in Jan, and plan to study like crazy so hopefully I'll be ready for the big bad NCLEX in February.

We have to take the NLN at the end of every semester, and we take the HESI tomorrow, it is our exit exam, ya dont pass, ya dont graduate and ya dont take the NCLEX!!!!

When we took the NLN at the end of every semester, if we did not score in the 85% of the national average we could not go to the next semester, and we have to score 850 on the HESI tomorrow...

We take HESI every semester. This was my 1st semester, so it was only on Fundamentals. I am VERY pleased to report I scored a 99.35%! I can't remember the # score off hand, but I know it was above 1100. HESI reccomends at least 850, preferably 900.
