  1. There must be an echo in here....
  2. Hey pinkpokey An OPT = Optional Practical Training. An OPT is essentially a one year work visa that any foreign student who graduates from at least a two year program in the U.S. automatically qualifies for. Your sister would not qualify if she planned to attend LPN school. Have your sister meet with an international student advisor at any community college or other nursing school for more info. I hope this helps!
  3. Hey! I am currently a male (last time I checked) in his mid-40's and a nursing student. I'll be graduating just before Christmas if all goes well. There are another six of us in my class. Being male has never been an issue. Best of luck to you! pabs...
  4. I win "re-essayez" 's all the time. Haven't collected one yet, though. Mitchell
  5. Hey Humiliated! Sorry I missed this thread the first time around. I too remember your original thread. I'm so happy for you! Cograts! I knew you had the where-with-all to succeed! Best of luck with your new job too!! Mitchell
  6. Hi Belleo924! I go to ECC city! I'm just about to start my 3rd semester. I did my pre-reqs at north in the fall of '03. I took NU115 at North with Daut. I think I still remember some of the names of the students: I remember Gene and Mindy S. for sure. What do you guys have to do for an exit exam? In your post above, "...if all goes well..." - I say that all the time too! UPDATE: The staff at our campus through their infinite wisdom have now passed 40 out of 60 students. The rest have one last chance in January.
  7. Hey LT! That's pretty amazing! What's your specialty? PM me if you're too shy to tell everyone. I'm still in school but know I need to specialize ASAP. Mitchell
  8. Bets and Angie, You guys are too funny! Okay, I will try to make it to Frenchy's for the grouper sandwich. I used to go to the New Port Richey area quite a bit a couple of years ago. I had a friend who lived there. We plan on taking a day trip over to Tarpon Springs - refresh my memory - isn't that where they had the old train station just off the Pinella's Trail? I remember parking there when I used to go roller-blading there, but I'm not sure if the train station is in Tarpon Springs, or if I'm confusing it with another town. We plan on driving up the 19 to have lunch at a little restaurant that overlooks the Pithlachiscotee (Cotee) River, roller-blade on the Pinella's trail, spend some time in Tarpon Springs, drive down to Fort Myers, and of course laze at the beach. Boy, it's getting cold up here...I can't wait... Thanks for the suggestions - keep 'em coming if you think of some more... 'til later... Thanks!!! M & P

  10. Hey Angie! Thanks for the sites! We're arriving in Tampa at 12:30 a.m. on the 5th. I've booked our room at the Sailport Waterfront Suites @ 2506 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa. Thanks again for your help! Mitchell and Pam
  11. Hello momoftriplets: I once rented a summer cottage to a nurse attorney from Buffalo, N.Y. I've since lost touch with her, but here's what she told me: She was an RN - BSN for several years. For her to become an attorney, it was three years in law school. Now she represents hospitals and surgeons in malpractice suits. I wish I knew more.... Mitchell
  12. Thanks Bets... Well, we are going north as far as Port Richey/New Port Richey. Can anyone help? We'll be leaving the airport at 1:00 a.m. and don't really want to drive around for hours trying to find something. S.O.S....S.O.S.... Mitchell and Pam
  13. Hello everyone from the Tampa Bay area! I need some help. In January my girlfriend (whom I'm in Nursing School with) and I are traveling to the Tampa area where we are planning to move to after graduation in '05. We've booked our flight and have rented a car. We arrive in Tampa just after midnight on Jan. 4, 05. Can anyone from the area recommend a hotel/motel in the Tampa/St. Pete's area that isn't too expensive? I don't know the area and would like some place close to the airport, at least for the first night. With thanks!! Mitchell.
  14. Maybe you're right. I have no idea who came up with having students perform above the national average to qualify for graduation - although I do have my suspicions. The thing is, is that if other schools have an exit exam, then I'll just have to pass ours. I'm not sure how many sections are on the exam, but one student passed all of the sections above the national average, and on one section, scored at the national average the first time, and at the national average on two sections the second time. Of course both results are failures. There's just somethi ng about all of this that just doesn't sit right with me.:uhoh21: Good luck on the skills exam tomorrow Buff-is-warm! Mitchell
  15. Thanks guys! This reminds me of a joke I once heard: What did the jail bird say when he found out he was going to be hanged? That's 'noose' to me! Mitchell
