The EC Magic Pencil

I have been hearing different comments about a "Magic Pencil" EC distributes to all EC Workshop students. They are specifically instructed during the EC 3 day Workshop to: "take that "Magic Pencil" to their Clinical". Hum.... So does this mean that the CA and the CE's know which students did an EC Workshop? And if so....what advantages, if any does it give to these students? Has anyone here been to and EC workshop the last 6 months or so and have they recieved this "Magic Pencil"? Did you also receive instructions to make sure you take your "Magic Pencil" to your clinical? Or if anyone here has been to an EC Workshop, got the "Magic Pencil" and did your clinical what do you think?

i went to an ec workshop in november. i got a "magic pencil" and a magic marble and a magic bag of smarties. what i also got was valuable insight as to how to help myself pass the cpne. i did not take my magic pencil to my cpne. i still passed. there are countless ways to fail the cpne. i hope people arent suggesting that a pencil was a factor. any workshop gives you an edge.

I'm sure the insinuation is "here is my ~$800 pencil from excelsior's workshop, cut me some extra slack :)"

bwahaha hi t-lo, it is your friend Alison...

Just had to see what this "magic pencil" thing was about and I am cracking up. I sure hope it's being exaggerated in its magical powers....

And as a bit of encouragement to students studying now, the 4 other people I tested with last July had either taken outside workshops or none at all--and we all passed, with only one repeat between the five of us! It can be done, it really can!

Love ya, T!

There was an EC Pencil at my EC workshop, but I was never told anything about bringing it to my CPNE or that it was "magic". What you are given at the seminar looks just like what you will see when attending any normal convention. Yes, smarties to make you smart, I was told that but I think that is pretty benign. There was also a girl that I attended the convention with that failed, but I seriously believe it was that she was very nervous and unprepared versus that she forgot her pencil ;) If EC did want us to use them, they should invest in very good mechanical pencils and not ones that require sharpening. Who would have time to find a sharpener during their CPNE? lol...

Thank you sooooooo much for replying! It's just when I see or hear things 3 times I tend to wonder. However from what I saw it was from students that were unsuccessful at their clinical.

Yes Frankiebooboo and Reebok that is exactly what some students are suggesting that the pencil from EC gives them an edge. But you are correct there are countless ways to be unsuccessful at the EC Clinical. So I guess this "Myth has been Busted"

Go prepared, control your nerves and use any kind of pencil you want;)

Hey LoveSbux nice to see you here...Hugs T

Hahahaha!! I am sure it is just a confidence-booster type of thing. I know they give out marbles at EC workshops for students to keep in their pockets, so when they have a brain-freeze moment, they can reach in their pockets and realize that they have "not lost their marbles." Jedi mind tricks, and the power of positive thinking. :)

I agree with Lunah...i think its more of a confidence booster if anything! It's all over the EPN site too about a "magic pen" lol...i'm sure it's a basic EC purple pen, that i believe someone mailed to me one time when i complained that they needed to have EC nursing shirts made! LOL...

I met EC's dean of nursing today at the ENA leadership conference, and I got an EC pencil! :D It is purple, but not magical!

You can sell the magic pencil on eBay.
