Nursing Students Excelsior

EC grads,

Post your year of graduation and your specialty/specialties. I'll go first:

I've been a Level II/III Neonatal ICU nurse since graduation in January '06.

Update 5/2018: I've worked for a large NICU since 2009 in bedside and education roles, and I've been a clinical instructor. I finished EC's MS program in nursing education a couple of years ago. I was recently accepted to the Ph.D. program at a state university.

Specializes in EMS, ED, Trauma, CEN, CPEN, TCRN.

I report for active duty with the Army on 23 March!! Woo hooo!! I was selected for active duty service with 50 other lucky applicants in a field of 300+ applicants ... GO EC! :D I will be working in an Army ER when I finish my officer training.

Much love to my EC peeps,

2LT LunahRN! :)

Just to update mine ...

RN/ADN with EC in June 2008. Been working in an ER (Virginia) ever since.

BSN with Chamberlain, June 2010.

And in 2011 ... Army Nurse Corps, active duty, as an ER nurse. :D

Congrats! I would LOVE to talk to you and get some insight from you. I am a Paramedic, also live/work in Virginia. Would you still do Excelsior now even though state of VA is now requiring 960 hrs work experience as an RN before giving licensure here? I work as a field medic and in the ER, so I have had a lot of hands on experience with the nursing aspect of pt care and have lots of help for me to get the hands on info that I will need to be a successful RN, I am willing to travel to NC to work for a year as that seems that would be required, but I guess I just need some affirmation from someone who's been there?!

Do you know anyone here in VA that has done the program since they changed rules back in 08 and as such had to work in another state before applying to work here in VA? If so, did they end up coming back and getting licensed here? Would love any insight and advice you could offer. I have been looking all over to find someone from the state of VA who has gone this route!!

Thank you!

Rachel

The only states where it's likely an EC grad will never be licensed, as things stand now, are California and Maryland. All other states with any issues/caveats have additional requirements for EC RNs to meet for licensure. I'm pretty sure it's just those two that are a no-go. But one could work in virtually any state if employed by a Federal agency, like the VA or the military. :)
