Shoes. Yes. Shoes.

  1. So this could have gone on a different board but other nurses don't typically move around and maneuver patients like ER nurses do.

What are the best shoes for 12 hour shifts? I can't do danskos or crocs.

I wear Saucony sneakers with arch inserts. My feet hold up pretty well in the psych ER.

I don't work in the ER, but I've heard that Alegrias are pretty good, then again, everyone's feet are different. But that's what I plan on getting; however, they are pretty pricey too.
    Good Luck!

I've got New Balance 927's and swear by them. No blisters, no sore heels, no sore lower back. They are a little heavy, but they are worth it.

Bates side-zip ems/police boots. Very comfortable over 12 hours, tough leather, no slip soles.

Omg, are you my twin?! I also wear saucony's with the arch inserts! (arch 3000 from hibbetts sports). Love them!

I do love danskos and satinas though, and will change them around to keep from getting used to them too much. My calves get tight if I don't, for some reason.

I have a pair of sanita clogs, a pair of MBTs and a pair of Nikes. The Nikes I wear with an inset. I rotate my shoes every night and tend to work in looong stretches when I can...4-6 shifts in a row.

If I have rotate a lot through high acuity areas that make me run a lot, I also use compression socks but that's a whole nother question right?

New Balance here too! They offer my foot the best support and comfort of anything I've tried. Definitely worth the money!!

Sorry you can't do the crocs, because they have saved my feet altogether. Had severe plantar fascitis, as it slowly cleared the crocs were all I could stand to wear. Haven't had a flare in several years.

One fellow at work swears by his cowboy boots, says it took care of his fasciitis. Have the high arch support that is often recommended, and fits snugly. Not the cheap ones though, he buys high end boots.

Careful with the athletic shoes, I used to have a hard time getting blood and other splashes out, and getting them dry enough to wear again the next night.
