Last shift, a postictal patient had a severe headache and wanted something.

She said she was allergic to Dilaudid and wanted Toradol.

Like I said, a first for me and a nice change from I'm allergic to all NSAIDs and any narcotic that doesn't start with a "D"

Haha. My friend had an ER clinical rotation and said that a patient came in complaining of pain. When he saw the doctor he said, "You know, oxycodone 5/500 works for me. That's what they always give me."

Oh dear...

I've had a couple of similar experiences. It really is refreshing, isn't it?

I had a first not too long ago.

Pt comes in complaining of 10/10 left arm pain X 1 week due to a fall on the job. Pt was prescribed two Norco 5/325 tabs. When I brought them in to her, she asked "are these narcotics?" I said "yes they are". She said, "I'm sorry I don't want them, can you give me tylenol or something else?" I almost fell to the floor.

My response to your patient....

"Sigh...listen lady....I'm not in the business of providing narcotics to every single patient that walks through these doo......wait......I'm sorry did you say you wanted the Torodol?"

I get that reaction...I had kidney stones and refused narcotics (I have terrible side effects i.e. non stop vomiting) They finally convinced me to take Demerol..but they thought I was nuts! :lol2:

I've had Toradol for pain and it is good stuff

but true there are people out there who like toradol more than dilaudid...

Not at all trying to be annoying about this but I thought you could only give 30 of Tordadol IV and 60 mg IM.

That has been my experience as well... maybe it's a facility thing?
