DNP by 2025!

AANA just announced their support for a mandatory practice doctorate for Nurse Anesthesia by 2025. I'm sure this will spark a great deal of opinions. There is still a lot to be answered. Will this be a special DNP for anesthetist? Will the generic DNP do? Is this only for entry or for anyone practicing? Will our patients refer to us as doctor? How will the MD's and DO's feel about this requirement?

What do all of you think???

Interesting! I skimmed over the report on the AANA site. Do you think MSN CRNAs will be grandfathered in or will they be required to obtain the PhD at some point?

When educational minimum is raised anyone currently holding that license is grandfathered in. So no current CRNA would not have to go back for their DNP

Oh boy. Go to the NP specialty forum. There's a lot of talk about NP's having to get their DNP. Similar situation.

yea, thats what I was fixing to say, PHd and DNP are to totally diff birds. I dont think persons with the MSN will have to go back get their DNP nor will they be just given the title DNP. Those practicing currently will be able to continue to practice under your current license but those coming up if they go through any program they will be getting there DNP. Pharmacy schools have just done this a couple of years ago!!!!
