PrimeCare Medical? Anyone work for them?

Never worked for them. Talked to a guy once who was trying to get nurses to work in a few of their facilities. Pay was a little on the low side, benefits were costly, did not have answers to some very pointed and important questions. My advice would be to be very, very careful and give this some serious consideration.

I have an interview with PrimeCare Medical and am wondering how they are to work for. Has anyone worked for them? I am considering the switch from ER to correctional nursing and would appreciate any info you can give me.

I am employed by PrimeCare Medical at a correctional facility in the state of WV. I have been with them for full time for 3 years, PRN for a year or so, so my total time being affiliated with them has been about 5 years, ever since 2000. They are a great company to work for. I cannot really think of anything bad to say about them. They have been a little stingy about not wanting a lot of overtime lately, but they will pay it if they have to. They have always been a fair and generous company, so I think they dislike a lot of overtime, but will pay it if they have no other choice. The owner of the company is very nice, it is a family operated company. They are family-oriented. The pay they offer in the state of WV is adequate, actually a lot better than hospital pay...not quite as high as some nursing homes...but I can't handle nursing homes. The job is one of the easier ones in nursing. A lot of paperwork. They also give yearly raises. Benefits are BC/BS for full time employees. $45.00 per pay for single...VERY pricey for family. You acqire leave hrs for every 80 hrs you work (paid leave). I think it is 4 hours for every 80, now. Was 8 hours for every 80 when I was hired. I have been pleased with them. I worked for CMS for awhile and they do not pay as well here in WV, don't know about other states. Well, if you have any other questions let me know.

I use to work for Prime Care Medical. When I would call the company to ask questions they would always be unavailable and would never return my phone calls. I found them to be very rude and uncaring people.

I would not work for them again. :angryfire

Blackcat...you have a point there...

It is difficult...next to impossible to get a hold of anyone at the corporate office...they may EVENTUALLY return your call..or NOT! I always route my questions through the medical administrator for that reason. There are SOME rude people everywhere you go, but I am fortunate to have a great supervisor(medical administrator) and I work with some great nurses. :)

one word - don't. they don't stand behind their employees, there is a big turnover, for which there is a reason. each facility is different but there are regions, some of which have better administrators on the regional level than others. crj is one of the better ones. if you want to try correctional nursing, try the feds. good pay, good benefits, etc, reasonable cost. and there is no age limit in the health care field. but there is a one year probationary period.

That's good news to hear about the federal corrections! I never even bothered to try them because I had heard the wrong information. I had been told that they didn't hire people over 36. I'm glad to hear that I had been misinformed about the feds. :)

Personally I love PrimeCare Medical, I've been working for them for the past 2 years at a regional jail. The paperwork can be a pain in the rear at times but they are very good about doing what they say. The high turnover is only bad because it takes a special personality to work with inmates. You have to be able to say no and put up with a lot of BS from not only the inmates but also the Correctional Officers. Other than that, I love my job and I would reccommend that everyone at least give it a shot.
