What are the chances of getting a job?

U.S.A. Colorado

I am thinking about moving to CO...I have 1 year of experience on a step down surgical unit and 6 months of psychiatric home care experience. My cousin who is also a nurse considering moving has about 2.5 years of oncology and a stepdown medical floor. It seems to be difficult for new grads to get jobs everywhere ( we live in Boston now..new grads cannot get jobs AT ALL!) But since we are not new grads but not exactly seasoned nurses. Just wondering! Thanks in advance!

I know the job market it CRAZY right now. But, with your experience you shouldn't have much of a problem..We are a little heavy on the "NEW" grad nurses in colorado right now, but, they are finding jobs..maybe not their Ideal dream job...but they are employed. It does depend on the area you are wanting to move to as well..Good Luck!

With some years of experience you should be able to find a job pretty easily. Just keep looking!

With 4 years of experience, neither my husband nor I had *any* problems finding jobs. In fact, we both had multiple job offers. Good luck!

What are the chances of an out of state new grad with a BSN getting a job?

You can probably find a job in a LTC or Home Health. Expect it to take up to 6 months though, and training will probably be little to none.

If you haven't moved yet I'd search online and see if you can get something lined up before you move.

Really..i dont graduate till next august( the first week of August). I see some jobs that do not say 1 year experience, like at a hospital in aurora. Is there anywhere that is taking new grads? Also I saw university of colorado denver nurse internship program is accepting applications. For that program do they only accept their own students?

I just graduated RN school and am looking to relocate to Colorado. It seems very difficult for new grads to find a position, but I'm pretty sure that is everywhere (so much for the nursing school phrase of, "there is such a nursing shortage, they'll throw jobs and money at you" haha). I realize that Ltc and nursing homes is probably where the new grads will go. Anyone in Colorado have any pointers or suggestions?

As a BSN New Grad (May 2010) from Denver, I can tell everyone the job market is tough! Most of my friends from nursing school do not have jobs yet. Many of those who do have relocated to other states. Any others who have jobs have them only because they either had lots of networking opportunities during clinicals, or have friends in units who were able to help them out. The new grad program at UCH received around 500 applications for somewhere around 15-20 openings. SkyRidge had 200 applicants in a two day window for six positions. They are interviewing 12. Having a high GPA, excellent resume, good references seems to mean nothing...it's who you know or luck mostly. These are just my observations.

As for those with experience relocating...well, there seem to be plenty of positions stating they will hire. I know the salary is less than some expect though...just something to consider.

Colorado nurse association has a facebook page for new grads looking for jobs. They will post information on job fairs, networking opportunities and other related events. You DO not need to be a member of Colorado nurse association to request to have access to the facebook page/site. There are a lot of suggestions pertaining to employers that are able/wiling to hire new grads. The web page is

mandyc,

Thanks for the link! I know that will be very helpful for people! Thanks for being a rockstar! :)

My husband and I are thinking about moving to northern Colorado. I have a feeling to afford the housing there, I'll need to find a job in Denver. I have 4 yrs ER experience 1 of those in a level 1 trauma center. Prior to being an RN I was a paramedic for 12 years. As you can imagine I won't fit anywhere but an ER, preferably another level 1 trauma center. I am a little fuzzy on where those level 1's are. I see Denver Health, and St. Anthony's, but I heard there are 4 in the state. Can anyone tell me the whole story?
