Waitlist Question for Community College Students

U.S.A. Colorado

Published

I am curious about how long you guys have had to wait until you got your waitlist numbers after filling out the waitlist application on the ccc website. I filled mine out in December and I have yet to get a number. The whole site is so vague that I really don't know if I need to fill in anything else.

Any info/advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Im not sure what school you applied to but I waited 2 years on a wait list, it can be rough!

The waitlist situation in the Colorado Community College system is truly a royal mess. The CCC system took it over from the individual schools in 2005 and then ended up giving it back again, and then starting another list. I was on ACC wait list just under the rope to stay on the individual college after the give-back. Fall 2006 I talked to people who had been waiting more than a year for a waitlist number. A relative of mine actually got into her program at Fort Morgan after about 1 1/2 of waiting without ever actually getting a waitlist number. FYI, I may get into ACC this Fall 2008, after more than 3 years on the waitlist. We'll see. I hear most CCC are not that long of a wait. I have used the time to finish all the prereq, of which they keep adding and adding. Good Luck and Ihope they have got the CCC web site working better now and know more what they are doing. It is strange you have to have all the BIO classes and almost all the others too before you can even get on the waitlist. When I went on you just needed a few of the non-science and BIO 201. Good Luck to us both, it will be worth it.

Calico5, I stopped by the nursing office this week because ACC's voice mail had not been updated with where they stopped on the waitlist. Applicant #959 was the last person to join January's program. I'm in the 1060's and Carmella said that I would definitely be on the alternate list for August. HTH

HGJ78, I didn't answer originally because I was part of CCCS' first try managing the waitlist. I applied in Dec. 05 and was notified of my number in Sep. 06. However, they gave me an 800 number based on my last name, not my application date and the school had to throw it out and sort by app. date. When I applied, I listed Pikes Peak as an alternate school and have never heard a peep out of them. While waiting, I have completed almost all of CU's transfer requirements. I just peeked at Arapahoe's FAQ page and discovered they are now recommending that we get our CNA before starting nursing school. Sheesh! This is the longest "2 year degree" I've ever heard of.

The whole wait list experience is very strange to me. My SIL went to El Centro in the DFW area and she was pretty dumbfounded when I told her that we had to apply a state wide wait list instead of just my home college's program.

Thanks for the responses. I was told by my home college that they won't even see the eligible applicants until the end of April or early May. I'm not really sure what that means for me but I will just keep rolling along. I just got the impression from the e-mails that I got from the CCC system that I would be asked to upload documentation of finished pre-reqs and get a number within a few weeks. I guess not.:icon_roll I am hesitant to ask many more questions because I feel like I will end up being labeled a "pot stirrer" but I am curious if the home colleges even get a voice as to who is allowed into their programs or if they just have to take the groups that are sent to them?

...sigh....this is all so confusing to me. Trying to figure out the waitlist makes the pre-reqs seem like remedial classes.

I thought CCC was entirely OUT of the process, ever since the schools took over their own waitlists again...? I got on the CCC list in May of 2006 and could NOT get the woman in charge to give me a number. hen she DID give a number to a friend of mine who got on the list in August of 2006...then completely denied to me that she gave my friend a number! I was happy to hear that ACC was back in charge of their own stuff, and I finally got a number this past September. Going by the number that they've worked up to (I think a previous poster on this thread said it was 956?), I will probably be in ACC's program that starts in January 2009.

I agree that it's a huge mess. The only good thing about it is I've been able to leisurely take my pre-reqs!

At least you guys had a contact number for the CCC list. I have searched high and low on their website and there is NO contact number for the list. The only thing is a technical support number for use if you have trouble inputting info. Other than that there is no one to call other than you home college.

The ACC waitlist seems crazy long! I think that the DON at my school said they had like 200 apply last year and not everyone actually met all of the pre-req requirements.

It has been nice to take my pre-reqs a slower pace. I have enjoyed the time at home with my little girl.:redpinkhe

I guess anything worth having is worth waiting for...and waiting, and waiting...:lol2:

Believe me, she wasn't much of a contact :angryfire I was always scared to call her because she was soooo grumpy all the time, and I was afraid she was going to get ticked at me and somehow "lose" my info, and I'd be off the list.

By the time I get in to the program, I'm going to be 80 years old! Well, okay, not THAT old, but I'll be creeping up on my 41st birthday by the time I graduate. Okay, now that I typed that, I feel elderly ;)
