I thought I would start this thread for those interested in applying to UNC for the Summer or Fall 2011 start, like me! :D

I went to an advising session there today and the advisor was fantastic. Because I will have my Associates of Science at the end of this semester all my liberal arts core is satisfied. Since I already applied to CU I met most of their pre-reqs, but still have to get my CNA and take 4 additional classes. I need BioChemisty, Nutrition in Health and Illness, Pharmacology and Pathophysiology.

All of these additional classes can be taken online, for those who are interested in taking them this way. BioChem is Chem 102 through ccconline. Patho is Bio 216 through them as well. The nutrition class (FND 357) can be taken through UNC online and they will accept pharmacology online through Long Beach City College, ADN 225 (lbcc.edu), and University of Wyoming, PCHY 4470 (ecampus.uwyo.edu).

The advisor told me entry into their program is GPA based. It is based on your cumulative GPA which is calculated from last 45 credits, along with those from the pre-reqs (BioChem, AP 1&2, Nutrition (FND 357, *not* HWE 100), Stats and English (research paper). Basically, they start with the 4.0's and work their way down until they fill their 72 spots. She said you could very likely get a spot if you have a GPA of >3.6. You also have to submit a resume which they said will only be used as a tiebreaker if necessary. No experience or volunteer work is required.

They have walk-in advising sessions multiple times during the semester (except summer), and I would highly advise going to talk to them. Check out the campus and the building too, they're beautiful.

Well, that's it. I hope some people who are working to apply to this school join the thread. It is always nice to get to know each other, share info and encourage one another, before and during the program. BTW, Benedina told me almost word for word what the advisor said to me today - so I think she seriously deserves a cookie! :lol2:

That is great for you!!! I plan on doing the bridge program there, I am doing my Clinicals for Peds at the hospital there this week. I had my daughter there although I had a very incompetent nurse. I worked in Greeley so I had all my prenatal care there and decided to just have her there since I stopped working in my last month.

Anyway, good luck we might end up neighbors!

Goodness, this is what I get for taking a break from AllNurses--I missed out on a cookie! And from Sand Dollar, no less. Thanks, and best of luck with UNC. I think they are one of the most overlooked programs in the state: caring and experienced faculty, beautiful campus, affordable and with solid clinical opportunities. I'm looking forward very much to entering this August.

Good luck, Sand Dollar!

You just have to get used to the smell LOL I always know when I enter greeley, I was at NCMC not long ago and I knew right when I entered town. I always tease my friend about it. I worked not far from the UNC campus for 7 months when I moved to CO. I have heard good things about the school though and they are on a NORMAL grade scale. 70-79 for a C,80-89% for a B.

Thanks for posting this! This is my first choice in nursing school. I just moved to Fort Collins this past year (I love it!), and looked into FRCC and UNC. Both good schools, but since so many places are leaning towards BSN up in this area at least, I would prefer to just do that. It is hard enough getting a nursing job here in northern CO. Hoping that changes by the time I graduate. But it is supposed to be a great school.

Mi Vida Loca, I never noticed a smell. I will definitely remember this when I visit the campus next time!

I'm all registered for my fall classes. I'll be taking my CNA through FRCC's Westminster campus as well as Pathophysiology and Biochem through ccconline. I will apply to UNC right after fall semester is over and hopefully get in the summer cohort.

Then in the spring it's Nutrition and Pharm at the UNC campus. I'm actually looking forward to this next year because I get to take some nursing related classes so I don't feel 'left behind'. And since I don't have to take patho and pharm during NS I don't have any really packed semesters (15 credits is the busiest). The more I learn about UNC, the less and less I regret not being able to get into CU.

Satori77 - Will you be applying to UNC soon? What other schools are you looking at?

Welcome to FoCo, their is a cool new website that was started last month that shows you tons to do here. I have lived here almost 4 years and didn't know about a lot of these places and can't wait to "explore" this summer. So figured I would pass it on.

Hot days are the worst. It's because the big beef plant is there, used to be right by my work and it's about 5-10 mins from UNC campus. Anyway so it smells like cows. Every now and again it will seep over here to Collins and you will here people say how Greeley is invading LOL

HaHa,

You guys are funny!! Greeley definatly does smell, i've lived in Fort Colllins nearly my whole life and we always make jokes about it. I hear really positive things about UNC's nursing program though. I am planning on applying to the second degree program in December for Summer 2011 start I believe. Does anyone know how competive the second degree program is on GPA. I know that they just take from a 4.0 down for so many spots. But I have about a 3.5?? Do I stand a chance. Good Luck to Everyone!!

Hi April!

I can't help with regards to answering your question about GPA for the 2nd degree program, but I still wanted to pop in and

1) welcome you to allnurses! :yeah: and

2) wish you good luck with your application!!

I'll be applying to the summer, traditional program myself. I'm taking Patho and Biochem online right now, and will be taking Nutrition and Pharm, the last of my pre-reqs, on campus this spring. Are you still finishing up some of the pre-reqs?

There are 10 of us in my Biochem class that will be applying to UNC this year. I haven't asked about GPA's or anything, I don't want to appear pushy! :lol2: Hopefully, some of them come on here and we can all wait to find out together.

Good luck to you and keep us posted how it's going!!

Thanks Sand_Dollar!!!

I am just finishing up my pre reqs, I am in A&P and biochem this semester along with getting my CNA. In the Spring I will be taking nutrition, patho and pharm on campus :D I have taken most of my pre reqs at Aims and FRCC so it seems like most of the people in my classes are applying to those programs. Well YAY!! I am excited for us I can't wait until December so we can get these applications on the road.

Good Luck!! Keep me posted too!!

Well, it's close to that time again - the new applications are available on the nursing program site.

I am attending an advising meeting this Tuesday from 4-5 so I can get my PIN that allows me to register for spring (which opens Nov 8). Is anyone else going to be at the advising session? I'll be registering for Pharm and Nutrition, along with a few filler classes. Wow....the end of the pre-reqs is in sight!! :yelclap:
