Hurry Up and Wait

I called the school today. The next CNA class does not start until August 31st, but I need to sign up now to reserve a spot. The receptionist told me that all of the spots will be filled by the end of June. The school has a mandatory information session on Fridays that I must attend in order to sign up.

I will have to tell my boss that I cannot come in until 5 pm this Friday. That will go over like a lead balloon :nono: but I have to attend if I am going to get my spot. I am just going to tell him that I have an appointment in Dallas and won't be available for work until 5. Hopefully, he won't ask questions. I am not ready to tell him that I will be quitting.

I am disappointed that class wont start until the end of August, but this is the school that I want to attend. So I will wait. While I am waiting I will work on my diet and exercise.

I know how you feel! I had to wait an extra month to start my class due to financial problems, which was soooo hard! It was definitely worth the wait though because I made some awesome friends in my class, a couple I even still talk to. Looking back, I feel it was meant to be that way and I'm so glad things turned out the way they did.

It's hard to wait for something you really want but it will be SO worth it in the end. Like you said, do something with the extra time you have. You will be busy, busy when class starts so catch up on laundry or whatever.

Good luck with class!

Can you get on a waiting list? When I called to sign up for my class they had an opening for the June 2 class, a week later when I went in to take the reading test, the class had been filled so I had to sign up for the class starting in July, but I did put my name on the wait list for the June class. Just so happens that a couple spots opened up and I was able to get in and not have to wait.

Oh, there will be more waiting. After I pass the class the school will set up a testing date for the state exam. There is only one examiner in the Dallas area. Our instructor informed us that it will be 30 to 60 days after passing the class before we can take the state exam.

We can work after only 16 hours of instruction, but the home that I want to work at requires that I be certified before I start working.

My plan is to keep working at Schlotzsky's (damn hat and apron.) In August I will inform my boss about my school and request two weeks off in order to take my class. My class will be held Monday-Friday from 7:30 to 3:30. I can work Saturday and Sunday during those two weeks. After I am certified I will get a job at the nursing home. I want the 10-6 shift. I will work from 3-9 at Schlotzsky's and then work from 10-6 at the nursing home.

I have to do this for a little while in order to get an apartment. The apartment requires six months on the job (Schlotzsky's) and it requires that I make three times the rent (nursing home job.) Once I am in the apartment and I see that I can handle the CNA job then I will quit Schlotzsky's :smokin:.

I will burn the hat and apron. I know...we'll have a party.

That sounds really tough!

Good luck with it and I wish you the very best! It will be worth it in the end and you will be stronger for it!
