HHA?

Basically you provide the same kind of care to pts as a CNA, only it's done within their home. You help with ADLs, there may be some light housekeeping and cooking if necessary. Sometimes you run errands for them. It may be picking up a perscription or going to the grocery store.

The advantage is that you are caring for only one patient. As a CNA working in a nursing home you can have up to 20 residents to provide care for. Big difference.

It really isn't bad. I've done both CNA and HHA and enjoyed both. As a HHA you have a little more freedom being that you do only have 1 pt as caliotter3 stated. It does make it nice. From time to time you will have a pt or their family that can take advantage of the situation and ask you to do things that are questionable, ie..I had one lady who was deaf and a recovering alcoholic and she repeatedly asked me to pick her up a bottle of vodka :nono: . I told her I couldn't do that and she reported to my supervisor that I was not doing my job properly, leaving out that she was asking me to by her booze. I told my supervisor and we all decided that I would pick up another client. She ended up getting a HHA who did by her booze and her family found out and the agency got into a little bit of hot water.

The home health aides in my area have trouble getting enough hours. Most clients want to be seen in the morning, so the agencies hire alot of aides and give them all morning clients. It is hard to get a full days work.

I was just looking into home health myself. I am not sure of a good company to work for though. i dont want to leave my job for something worse. And it seems to me, some dont pay so well or cover gas cost..so let me know if you find a good company!
