The mood was somber at work today. A black cloud hung over the whole facility. Residents know that it is a holiday weekend, and they are spending it alone. Workers are missing out on the backyard barbecues going on at home. It was so depressing. I was unable to lift anyone's spirits today.

And we still have two days to go. :crying2:

I felt it.

Everyone was restless and there were an increased number of falls and behavior problems on the unit.

I had immediately attributed it as after-effects of Thursday's full moon.

Totally forgot about it being a holiday weekend.

You think this is bad..try working the major holidays like thanksgiving & christmas! All the families coming in to take their loved ones out..and the ones "left behind" look around and wonder "Why didn't my family come?" Its beyond depressing :(

One nursing home I've worked for would give all the residents gifts. I liked that because that way no one got shafted.

Actually none of my residents seemed to give 2 figs about the holiday, and neither did I. Things usually, seem different on the major holidays like Christmas and Thanksgiving though. When i worked second shift on NYE I asked all the residents if they were staying up and got a big fat "hell no" from everyone.

Nobody is much into Easter egg hunts either.

Can't imagine WHY, considering Activities forgets that these people are wheelchair-bound and can't figure out why no one can reach that egg on the top shelf of the bookcase.

The activities department at one of my jobs had our maintenance director dress up as the Easter bunny. :rolleyes::rolleyes: And yet they say we shouldn't treat them like children.

Gee I guess the Easter Bunny thing is real mature. /sarc

None of my residents realized what day it was at all. My workplace gives everyone a gift (like a robe or sweater) every Christmas
