CNA hourly pay rate?

Nursing Students CNA/MA

Published

Hello.

I'm trying to apply for this nursing home near my house.

but i'm not sure what to put for desired rate of pay.

so..

what is the average pay rate for starting cnas?

i looked up and they are giving me different rate.

thanks

I'm in nc, I make 10.25 but thats with a dollar graveyard shift diff. 3-11 pays 25 cents more. Plus I get great benefits, the ability to make my own schedule ect :)

7.75 an hour with shift diff? I agree quit now, asap.

In Jacksonville, FL, I started at St. Vincent's in April '08 at 9.76/hour. They give a 2.00/hr shift diff for weekends and I can't remember what the night rate was. I have been told that nursing homes start out a little higher. I left there to use my Medical assistant certification for quite a bit more money, but I actually miss it tremendously!:crying2:

And that was starting with no experience in the medical field!

Did some checking and found out that the avg. starting pay for someone with no experience in Missouri is $10.15/hr just starting out if they are certified. Our local McDonald's starts out at $9.00/hr. I think it's time I ask for a raise!

In California the average is about 12-13 an hour. With shift differentials night/weekend pay can be 14-15 an hour. I know CNAs in acute care and in correctons that make 18 an hour, but it is not common. I think CNAs should get paid way more then they do. 7 or 8 dollars? That is too bad.

I have heard from some of my instructors that you should put negotiable. That way, when the interview comes, you can let them start the bid, and if you don't like the rate, you can go elsewhere.

mm.. wow thanks everyone :)

now i just i get hired somewhere and make atleast $10 or more..

gotta pay my debt off.. lol *sob*

I'm in Michigan, I've made up to 12/hr. While I heard that some hospitals start CNAs at 14/hr. It's very hard to get into those hospitals that pay that much

There is no average. If you look on the forum, past questions for the last 6 months, you'll see this question asked all the time. It depends on your general region, state, if rural or city, and the demand. I've seen started pay rates around $7.00 up to around $12.

In the Chicago area, it's around $8 -$9 to start. Downstate Illinois, it's less. Some of the far western and eastern states are significantly higher, but their cost-of-living is much higher.

Someone may be able to answer if you give your city/state.

Also, as a generalization, assisted living pays the least, LTC next, hospital the highest, and home health towards the lower end (again, as a generalization).

By the way, the 'standard' response for desired rate of pay is "open". The LTC sets the rates according to their schedule, not yours.......

My Chicago experience has been different.Starting salaries in Chicago are between 10-15,LTC pays the most and the hospitals pay the least. My Home care agency pays from 11-18 for CNA's and the Hospice pays 16 too....The suburbs usually pay more and offer shift differentials like an extra 3 bucks on weekends and an extra 2 on Overnight shifts.

i think its around 8
