wondering what in the heck is going on...
We were all looking forward to going in and putting in some work. We were nervous, but still looking forward to it! We went in yesterday and the staff member leading the orientation was just so nasty and rude that one of my classmates was about to walk out. We convinced her to stay. Today was complete chaos. If you ask this woman a question she gives you a smart-behind answer, like we have been working there for months. We have only been there ONE day, and we were watching a video the whole time.
Then she ignored this little lady that was outside moaning at the bathroom door. Then finally, she said to another woman, "so-in-so, does this 'black' lady out here have to go to the bathroom?" We all looked at each other like....WOWWWWW.....
I'm just feeling a little discouraged and disgusted.
Best thing I can say is once you get paired with a CNA, do do do and ask ask ask. On the 2nd day of my clinicals we were running call lights in student pairs to assist with anything we were comfortable doing. Final day we were soloing stuff. The CNA's we worked with were EXCELLENT, but i heard a few had bad day. All that I dealt with were more than helpful with questions. Had a patient on day 2 that didn't want me to help her get showered. OK.. her choice. So I hung out in the room with the CNA's we were helping while another student did the shower, and I chatted with the CNA's. The ONE THING I completely forgot about was asking about care plan sheets.
But thru it all, we made our impact. We had patients complementing us, a few asking for us by name, and such. Even got attached to a few. Even had one fellow student hang around on the final day for an extra 3 hours just chatting with one patient. LOL. Its hard not to get attached. Another group from my school had a resident pass on during one of their clinical days, just hours after we had left. You never know what will happen till the day is over.
And if all else fails, its just clinicals. Hope you don't have to go thru it for too many days.
