  1. I want to thank you, and yes it does feel cruel and thoughtless, and selfish. I feel discouraged because I truly enjoy my residents and the the thought of leaving them makes me feel sad...like I would be abandoning them, and oo the other hand the place is run so very wrong.
  2. Yes this person is certified to pass meds. She is not an LNA though, just a care giver. As far as us having a nurse on our shift... We don't have one. We have one RN and she works the day shift, we have no RN or LPN on our night shifts. They are supposedly on call..whenever we can reach them that is. We have 2 med runs on our shift..One at 4:00 and one at 7:00pm. She won't help the med passer at 4:00 because the office people are still there, but you can bet at 7:00 that she's passing meds with the other med passer to help her. We are scheduled to have 1 med passer and 2 Lna's per shift. Instead, we have 2 med passers and one LNA.
  3. LNA stands for Licensed Nurse Assistant
  4. I really could use some advice. I am an LNA in a nursing home that currently has 39 residents. We have no housekeeper, I am always being told told to borrow items from one resident to use for another resident, wipes, depends, bath products, etc. I always write down what the resident needs so it will be ordered but it takes weeks to get even one thing. And a lot of nights I am the only LNA with the Med Passer. The nights that there are 2 of us Lna's, this one particular Lna will take the other med cart to help the med passer after the boss leaves for the night so I'm still the only Lna on the floor with all of these residents. The Lna is best friends with the med passer, whom is my supervisor. I want to say something so bad that I feel it is wrong, but I work a lot with these two and they're best friends and I don't want to end up getting them upset with me to the point that it will make it uncomfortable to work with them. I don't really want to go to the boss because they'll know it's me that said something. And I feel as if the boss doesn't really want to listen to problems.
  5. I cannot see how it can be done... On my clinical day, I had one lady to feed who was a total assist, and it took me a half hour just to feed her, and she still didn't finish eating. How do you manage to feed a multitude of residents and be sure they're eating enough without the food sitting there for an extended period of time?
  6. I have had 2 of my clinical days done so far, and both were in the same facility.(Which by the way was a very unpleasant place to say the least) I was told that I could be responsible for 9 residents during my shift. My question is: how in the world could any one LNA care for that many residents and provide quality care. In my opinion, I don't think that is possible, without someone being neglected.
  7. I'm haven't gotten to my clinicals in class yet, but what I would do, is just bite your tongue until you get through your clinical days.. Then when you get your license steer clear of that facility.
  8. Hi, I'm a LNA student halfway through my class and I read your post when you had taken the skills part of the test, ( Congrats for passing by the way).. It made me think..... When you did the perineal care, please say it was on one of the dummies. My instructer told us that the test observer will be bringing in a real person to act as our patient, and the thought of doing perineal care on an "actor" would not be very comforting, lol.
  9. Thank you all so much, your replies have helped. I'll be back to let you know how it went.
  10. Thanks for the reassurance. I want to do well and hope I don't get too nervous and get "blank brain" under pressure, lol.
  11. Hi, I have my first day of clinicals in a little over a week, and will only be half way through my class at that time. I'm nervous thinking that I'll be asked to do something that we haven't covered yet in class. Can anyone give me an idea of what to expect during my clinicals?? I'm hoping that might calm my nerves some.
