New Program in Maryland

I just read on Old-Gas that there is a new anesthesia program that has been approved at the University of Maryland in Baltimore. This is good news for the profession and gives those of you out there who want to be a CRNA another option.

Thought I'd help the person who is answering the phone at U of M in Baltimore's nursing program out. She said that she's had hundreds of calls, but they have not started the program yet. She said that there is a strong possibility that they will, but not yet. Don't know what that means.

The school is indeed going to happen. I know the person who is setting it up and heard from her today via email. It should be a good program. Stay tuned for more information.

If Yoga is talking about the same person I met at the mid year conference, and the DC AANA conference, it will indeed happen. She is a very dynamic an driven individual, who has been working very hard to get this through.

That is great. I was surprised that this university didn't have a programs, please keep us updated with more news about it. How do I get more information about it. Also, how about opening more programs in the West coast? more specific South Cal? We have only three programs here, and we need more.

Hi! I'm Pucci and I am starting my BSN at Coppin State this fall. I am very interested in the CRNA program. When I checked the web for schools in MD, they didn't have any. The closest one I found was at Georgetown in DC. I really do hope that they incorporate that program at Univ of MD. I'm very close and wouldn't have to travel far. I also wanted to know if anyone, whose starting their CRNA program, could tell me how they got into acute care??? I was just browsing this site and I find that the info is very good. Sorry for babling. Thanks a bunch

Pucci,
nursing is wide open right now and most of the hospitals in the balt area provide a training period when you are starting in an acute care setting that consists of critical care classes etc....
obtaining a tech position won't hurt (i advocate for ER just so you can get your clinical skills -iv's etc - perfected) then when you graduate - transfer into the unit you want!!
out hospital has an extern/intern program -

Pucci,
athomas91 has some great advice. Try getting a Tech job in an ER. I just transferred from my Paramedic position to a Tech II job in a 77 bed ER. It is very busy and you are worn out by the end of the shift (12hrs), but I have drawn more blood and started more lines in the past three days of precepting than it seems I have in the past two years of doing Critical Care Runs and doing some Volunteer 911 EMS work. The experience is great and your are exposed to alot of conditions and procedures, plus not to mention the invaluable Pediatric experience. Good luck with everything.
