5th Nursing Caption Contest - Win $100
Soooo, that incentive for the contract position in radiology is, all of a sudden, not so attractive.

Should I give up?
Thanks to everyone for the encouraging replies. You all have given me lots to think about. No, I stopped applying because I knew that I had infertility issues therefore wanted to concentrate on getting pregnant and IT WORKED. I have a beautiful (despite the little horns I see from time to time) 6 month-old baby boy. The rejections made me feel as though I didn't have what it took, therefore, I reasoned that NP would be a good route. But now, I'm feeling like I should be going for what I really wanted. So, I've decided that for now, I'm going to stick with my NP program but continue to apply to CRNA programs. I'm taking pathophysiology now and will be taking pharmacology in the spring. I know that most programs won't let these classes transfer, but I think that they'll look good on my transcript and you can never know too much patho and pharmo in the health care field. Once again thanks you guys. Tae

Should I give up?
I'm at my wit's end. I am one of the CRNA hopefuls that has been broken by the competitive admissions. I have very good GRE scores, 2 years experience in a level 2 inner city trauma center ICU, and 3.2 GPA. I did interview at VCU a year and half ago, but didn't make the cut. UAB wouldn't even give me an interview. They wanted me to retake some courses. Well, because of infertility issues, I decided that I'd better go ahead and try to get pregnant. I then took a less strenuous position in the PACU of a smaller hospital. I figured I'll never get in anyway, so I decided to enroll in local FNP program. Only been in three weeks and I'm panicking because this is not what I want to do. I love surgery and want to be a CRNA. It will take me at least a year to take some classes and then I'm not guaranteed to get into CRNA school. I guess I'm looking for some support and suggestions. Or do I just not seem to have what it takes? Anybody been in this type of situation? Tae

NP to CRNA??!!
This is also on my mind heavily right now. I've wanted to be a CRNA every since I started my nursing career (circulating in the OR). I recently had a baby and decided to start a local FNP program. I've only been in school for 3 weeks now and I'm panicking (SP?) because I'm realizing more and more that I still really want to be a CRNA. For one, the job outlook is vastly different. So, if the original poster doesn't mind me piggybacking them, I'd love to know if you guys think I should just quit this program and pursue admission to CRNA program or should I keep going? Tae

is being a crna a boring job ???
I recently overheard some nurses at work making statements that they could never do anesthesia because it was so boring. My first thought was to ask if they had ever shadowed an anesthetist. But my better mind just smiled. Those are two less applicants that I'll be up against. I've talked to a lot of CRNA's. I've never heard one complain of boredom.

Would you mind telling what school is requiring you to do this. I'm currently applying to CRNA school I, too, haven't read anything about interviewing for a clinical site. Thanks

Wow, I really think that this got out of hand. In Angel's defense, I must say that when I read her posts, I don't see where she stated that she had a problem cleaning patients. She really did just ask a question and it took about 5 replies before someone really answered it. As a very curious person, I've been in this situation several times. I ask questions and the person responds to how they feel about me asking the question as opposed to simply answering it. In answer to your question, I'm not a CRNA, but I worked in OR for two years. I've never seen a CRNA clean a patient's bottom. I have seen them cleaning the patient's face and mouth. I've also seen them cleaning the patient's chest when it was dirty or greasy in order to place their EKG leads. As someone else said, I'm sure they would probably need to clean vomit at times, although I've never seen a patient vomit in my OR.
